WSOP 2008
It’s the end of Day 1 in Event #27, the $1.5k No-Limit Hold’em tournament, and the 2,706-player field has been whittled down to a mere 224. Unfortunately, after the money bubble burst we had a couple of P5 casualties.
After nursing his short stack through the bubble, Mike “MoneyMike104″ Prepelica got all his money in with pocket fours against another player’s A-9. The ace came on the flop and was enough to send Mike to the rail.
Phil “USCPhildo” Collins (pictured at left) got all his money in preflop along with 2 other players, only to find that his 8

was doubly dominated by his opponents’ 9

and Phil was sent packing just before play ended for the evening.
Play will resume tomorrow at 2PM PST with many notable players returning. The lineup includes Court Harrington, Greg “OKState345″ Cox, Jason Gray, Billy Westom, and Danny “THE_D_RY” Ryan.
The $5K Pot-Limit Omaha tournament continued to excite the huge crowd of spectators trying to catch a glimpse of all the stars in the Amazon room. PocketFives caught up with Tom “durrrr” Dwan as he was pulling his chips back in after an all-in next to Andy Bloch; his stack grew to a healthy 200K.
Jeff “yellowsub” Williams (pictured at right), however, sat at a table where Phil Hellmuth was beating up on his blinds. In the big blind, Jeff raised and met a call from Hellmuth. The flop came 7

and both checked. The 8
came on the turn, Jeff checked, Hellmuth bet 5K and Jeff called. The river came 2
, Jeff checked once again, and Hellmuth raised to 14K. After taking a long time to think, Jeff called and mucks; he was visibly frustrated after the hand and commentary from Hellmuth.
Later, Jeff raised under the gun and met a call once again from Hellmuth. The flop came A

. Jeff checked, Hellmuth bet 4K and Jeff laid it down. To compensate for his chip loss, Jeff bullied the short stack at the table on a flop of 6
J
T
with 15K already in the pot. The short stack checked and Jeff raised him for 23K more, forcing him to make a decision for his tournament life. After a long time in the tank, the short stack folded and Jeff chipped up again. Later, however, Hellmuth was once again beating up on Jeff’s small blind, forcing a fold and reducing his stack to 70K. PocketFives continued to rail Jeff and support him in the good fight; we will update on his situation as it develops.
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements was eliminated from the tournament after being very short-stacked for quite awhile; he left the Amazon room after a disappointing run at making yet another Omaha final table.
