WSOP 2009 Event #52: The Diet Rebuy

You may not have heard, but the WSOP got rid of rebuy events this year. As a result, the popular $1K NLHE w/ rebuys event had to be axed. In its place, we have today’s event. It is kind of like a rebuy in the sense that each player gets 9K chips for their $3K buy-in and they can be put into play in 3K chunks. You can take all 9K up front or you can start with 3K and put the rest in any time in the first three levels. If it sounds familiar, it is because it is the same structure they’ve used for several of the Omaha events we’ve already covered. The event starts at 12PM and Dylan “ImALucSac” Linde, Kevin “ImALuckSac” MacPhee, Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau, Christian “charder30″ Harder, and Carter “ckingusc” King are just a few of the people that have forgone the online Sunday grind to play today.
There is also a new event at 5PM today, the $1.5K Stud H/L tournament. It is just a hunch, but we’re guessing there will be less P5ers giving up their Sunday tournament schedule to play this event rather than the NLHE, but we’ve been wrong before.
The $1.5K NLHE will be returning for Day Two today. Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh ended Day One third overall in the chip counts and he will be joined by 348 other players trying to survive to the end of the day when the final table is set, including Nathan “darkcheck” Tuthill, Scott “DorinVandy” Vandy, Stuart “vedder1980″ Barclay, Jason “JP OSU” Potter, and several other P5ers. Their restart will begin at 2PM.
We’ve got a final table kicking off at 2PM as well. The $1.5K LHE Shootout final table featuring Matt “mattster24″ Sterling and Joep “Pappe_Ruk” van den Bijgaary will begin with eight players and one will emerge victorious with a shiny new bracelet.
The $50K HORSE is back fro some Day Three action at 2PM as well. Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein, Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis, Justin “Boosted_J” Smith, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, and Scott “BigRiskky” Clements all remain in the field.
