It’s a Wrap! by Brett on 07.08.09, 4:39 am

Day 2A of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event is complete as approximately 630 of the original 1,476 players have survived the day. Among the chip leaders at the end of the day were Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp, Nick “gbmantis” Niergarth, Karec “K-Rock2525″ Terrell and Carter “cswidler” Swidler.

Many, however, hit the rail before the tournament clock hit zero. Clark “snake8484″ Hamagami suffered a tough beat on the first of the last three hands of the night. Action folded to Hamagami (pictured right) in the small blind and he stuck his last 16.2K in the middle. His opponent told Clark he was in the mood to gamble and called the bet with A4. Hamagami was slightly ahead with A6 but there was a good chance they would chop the pot.

“Don’t even deal let’s chop it,” Clark’s opponent told the dealer.

“I’d take a chop,” Hamagami agreed.

If it was a cash game both players may have taken their bets back and gone on to the next hand. This is not a cash game though, and the dealer flopped 863. Clark made a pair, but his opponent’s flush draw loomed. The J on the turn ended the hand and Hamagami began collecting his things. Clark was already gone before the T hit the felt and his opponent pulled in the remainder of his chips.

After playing patiently all day, Craig “MrCasino” Gray tried to make a move and was caught. The board read 653J and Gray check-raised an opponent all in. His opponent called holding QJ and Craig unhappily tabled 77. Gray was drawing to four outs but the 9 was not one of them and he was eliminated.

Michael “Gags30″ Gagliano will miss Day 3 too. He got the rest of his chips in with AK against an opponent’s jacks. The board ran J5493 and Gagliano wished his opponents good luck before exiting.

Nick “fu_15” Maimone, meanwhile, could hardly stay seated at the end of the night.

“SO hyper right now,” he told us after getting up after folding for a second straight hand. His excitement stemmed from the fact that after being down to 20K just a few hours earlier, he had built his chip stack back up to over 200K. He told us about a big hand he won during the last level. He said he limped on the button after another player had already limped into the pot with Q8. The small blind limped as well before the player in the big blind raised to 5K. Maimone was the only caller and the flop came 10-9-7. Maimone’s opponent checked and Maimone bet 6K. The other player then raised to 16K and Maimone called. The turn was a jack, giving Maimone a straight. His opponent checked again and Maimone bet 7K. His opponent then moved all in. Maimone wasn’t sure of the exact number, but estimated that the shove was for between 50-60K. Maimone insta-called and the other player was drawing dead with pocket kings. He lost a pot to a turned set during the final few hands of the night to finish with 186K.

Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant (pictured left) also told us how he chipped up at the end of the day. A player at his table raised to 3K and another player called. He raised to 11.5K with A-Q and the original raiser moved all in for 33K. Vinsant made the call and was thrilled to see him opponent turn over KJ. The board didn’t bring the other player any help and Vinsant increased his stack to 95.9 to end the day after sitting on a stack of about 60K for virtually the entire day.

We returned to the Orange Section of the Amazon Room to find Corey “comandr_cool” Burbick all in for 63.3K on the river with the board reading A3357. There was about 50K in the pot and Greg Mueller was the one with the decision. The ESPN cameras were focused on Mueller and his huge chip stack, so they certainly caught him folding AK face up after asking Burbick if he had flopped quads.

The comeback of Stephane “Foutight” Bisson will continue to day three. He doubled up with three hands remaining on the night with AQ versus KJ. The board ran out T935A and Bisson ended play with 60K.
