Up, Down and Out by Jessica on 12.15.09, 9:56 pm

Level 8 has seen quite a bit of chip movement and several players have been moving up, down and out of the chip counts. Noah “fouruhaters” Schwartz (pictured left) belongs in the “moving up” category thanks to Keith “DaMurdera3” Ferrera. The two were part of a tough table line-up that included Schwartz, Ferrera, Billy “Patroman35” Kopp, Noah “Exclusive” Boeken, Ben “shankingyou” Palmer and Amit “amak316” Makhija.

With the blinds at 600/1,200 ante 100 Ferrera raised to 3,000 from middle position and Schwartz reraised to 8,300 from the button. Action folded around to Ferrera who made it 21,400 to go and Schwartz thought for a minute or two before moving all-in for 68,200. Ferrera had the dealer pull the chips in the middle, then decided to call the additional 45,000 or so with 44. Schwartz revealed KK, which held as the board ran out T8875 and Schwartz doubled up to over 130,000 while Ferrera was left with 20,000.

The rest of Ferrera’s chips went in a few hands later when he once again picked up pocket fours. This time he ran into someone else’s pocket nines and the nines held to send Ferrera to the rail.

Also moving up is Brent “BHanks11” Hanks, who is the tournament’s unofficial chip leader with nearly 300,000 chips. He told us that he made a big call against David “Viffer” Peat early in the day to pick up a 75,000 chip pot and has been gradually building his stack throughout the afternoon. He picked up aces when another player had kings, then picked up another sizeable pot when he picked up a pair of cowboys himself.

Another player moving up is Christian “charder30” Harder (pictured right), but he still has a ways to go to get back to average. Harder’s tablemate Jason “JP OSU” Potter called Harder’s button shove for 16,000 with A7, which was ahead of Harder’s K9. The 976 flop connected with both players and Harder improved when the 9 fell on the turn. The river 7 made boats for both of them, but it was Harder’s nines full that scooped the hand and doubled him up to 32,000. Potter, meanwhile, dropped to 30,000.

After the hand, Potter smiled and said, “Not sure why I thought I’d ever beat you in a hand anyway.”

Jon “PearlJammer” Turner also dropped a sizeable pot in Level 8. He opened for a raise to 2,700 from early position and a player in middle position called. The flop fell 742 and Turner led out for 3,800. His opponent moved all-in for 22,800 total and Turner quickly called, tabling 2-4 for two pair. The other player showed 98 for overs and a flush draw. The turn brought the 2 to make the other player’s flush and the 5 on the river secured them the pot. Turner was down to 230,000 after the hand.
