Thug Making Less Money by Jessica on 06.18.09, 2:31 am

Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh’s self-proclaimed “donkslide” began when he reraised a player with A-6 and was priced in to call when the player moved all-in with A-K.  A few hands later, the two players tangled again, getting it all-in preflop with Cody holding pocket jacks to the other player’s pocket queens.  The queens held and Cody dropped from 400K to 60K in the blink of an eye.

He has since rallied though and is now back at just below average with around 135K.  He effectively doubled up at the 3K/6K ante 500 level when it folded around to the player in the small blind who shoved for his last 50K or so.  Slaubaugh peeled back one card, hesitated, then peeled back the other before quickly announcing “call” as he flipped up pocket aces.  His opponent’s Q2 was unable to catch the aces as the board ran out 552A4 and Slaubaugh’s aces full were more than enough to eliminate the other player and cross back over the 100K mark.

While Slaubaugh’s double up went his way, there were several other players who weren’t so fortunate.  Jeremiah “Believer82″ Vinsant got the last of his chips in when a player opened for 16K from the hijack and Vinsant shoved all-in from the small blind.  The player in the big blind reraised and the initial raiser folded.  Vinsant’s K-10 was trailing the other player’s K-Q, but Jeremiah took the lead when the flop fell 10-9-3.  However, the J on the turn made the other player a straight, so when Vinsant was unable to spike a queen on the river to chop, he was sent to the rail.

Joining him there is Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger (pictured let).  Lichtenberger lost the majority of his stack in what we think was an all-in preflop confrontation with Scott “mindwise” Pendergrast holding A-Q to Scott’s pocket aces.  The aces held and Andrew was left with only 6K in chips.  He made a slight rally, getting as high as 15K before he got it all-in once again holding 68 to another player’s KQ.  Lichtenberger was surprisingly chipper about the situation.

“Sweet! I’m hella live,” he exclaimed.  The 985 flop paired his eight, but the T on the turn made the other player a flush and sent Andrew home for the night.  Other eliminations this level include Zacharay “CrazyZachary” Clark and Luke “bdbeatslayer” Vrabel.

One of the players trending upward this past hour has been Jonathan “therookieqq9″ Plens.  We missed the preflop action, but based on Plens’ recollection of the story, it sounds like another player opened from the cutoff, Jonathan moved all-in for 130K or so out of the blinds with 66, and the other player called with AK.  The sixes held on the 742JJ board and Jonathan took down the massive pot worth 270K.

After the hand, Roland de Wolfe, who is also seated at the table, couldn’t resist needling Plens for his play.  Earlier in the day Plens mentioned to Roland that he was friends with Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi.  Once the hand was over, de Wolfe stood up, walked over to Plens and said, “You are Sorel’s buddy aren’t you?  Trying to spew it off with sixes?”  Plens took the ribbing in stride and proudly (and jokingly) admitted Sorel taught him everything he knew about donking off chips.

We overheard some delightful ribbing from the rail as Adam “Roothlus” Levy popped in to check on Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby and Adam “csimmsux” Geyer (pictured right), who are now seated side by side.  When asked how they were doing, Jared responded:

“We’re just hanging out in the nit cave, acting like nits, talking like nits.  Watching everyone at the table except us pick up pocket aces.”

Levy interrupted the conversation to point out another player’s 3-bet at the table.   “Look, he just bet your stack!”

“Hey, are you even in this tournament?,” Jared retorted.  “Floor!  Floor!”

Levy mosied along and Geyer and Hamby returned to the cozy warmth of their nit cave to await the big pocket pairs headed their way eventually.

Here are some chip counts from the end of Level 17:

WSOP 2009 Event #35: $5K Pot Limit Omaha

Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy took a hit to his stack in Level 9 of the $5K PLO event. On a board of 762, Josephy led out for 10.5K and the player in Seat 7 moved all in for a total of 29K. Josephy worked through the math in his head before announcing his decision: “I have to call.”

Josephy showed KK73 for a pair of kings while his opponent revealed his 6443 for straight and flush draws. The 5 on the turn left Josephy drawing thin and the Q made a flush for his opponent, leaving Cliff with 136K.

Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi (pictured left) went off during the past hour, chipping up to 100K after doubling through Justin “BoostedJ” Smith and then winning another flip with a pair of aces in his hand. Jamie “thecronic420″ Rosen is nearing the 100K mark after 3-betting a player preflop. His opponent distustingly turned over his KKKx hand and Rosen showed rags. Rosen was at 97K at our last count.

Another table just broke as we are down to 90 players. Here are the other P5ers still alive:

Isaac “westmenloAA’ Baron - 83K
Mike “SirWatts” Watson - 66K
Justin “BoostedJ” Smith - 38K
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements - 32K
Clayton “clayton_27″ Newman - 19K
