‘TheWacoKidd’ And ‘The Maven’ On Rushes by Rachel on 06.17.09, 2:18 am

Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby had been nursing a short stack since dinner break here on Day 1 of Event #34. But when we last saw him, he had run his stack up to 30K. Hamby was kind enough to enlighten us on his recent rush. According to Jared, he first doubled with two red eights. A player raised to 2K from under the gun and was called by another opponent in middle position. Hamby shipped 11K all in, and was called by the original raiser. The player in middle position opted to sit this one out, and Hamby found himself against AQ. Jared’s eights held on a K-4-2-7-9 board, and he nearly doubled while recording a knockout. Hamby then shipped it in a few hands later with aces after a raise, and the original raiser called with queens and the board ran clean. Timely aggression and a rush of cards has Jared sitting comfortably above average as the end of the night nears.

David “The Maven” Chicotsky made a nice comeback of his own, and he bluntly told us how it went down.

“Suckout, suckout, suckout,” he explained. “They love me over there.”

Chicotsky told us he ran 1.1K (about three big blinds) to 25K in just twenty minutes, and that gives him an average chip stack. He said he beat A-8 with A-2 and later A-Q with his 7-6. David now has a chance to parlay his good fortune into  a deep run with the field under 400 players from the original field of 2,095.

WSOP EVENT #32: $2K NLHE

With the blinds at 3K/6K in the $2K NLHE event, David “DavidP18″ Peters made a call of 22K on the button to see a flop heads up. The flop was QQJ. Seat nine led out for 22K and Peters made the call. The turn was the 7. The player in seat nine checked and Peters made a bet of 38.5K. The other player called and the river was the 8. We missed if there was a bet by Peter’s opponent but we do know that Peters ended up moving all in and was instantly called. Peters showed his K-Q, but the other player had river the nuts with his 9T. Peters looked a little shocked as he hit the rail.

Clark “snake8484″ Hamagami has taken a few hits to his stack. He called a short-stacked opponent’s all-in bet of 24.5K with his KK but couldn’t beat the other player’s AQ when the board came A87J6. He now has about 115K with the average at just over 200K.

Jack “doctor_fun” Powell got a much-needed and very fortunate double up to 120K or so when he was able to make a flush with his J8 against an opponents pocket jacks. However, he was eliminated a short time later in a three-way pot.

Eric “whitE_mAmbA” Ladny continues to sport one of the biggest, and probably THE biggest, stacks in the field. With 44 players remaining, Ladny now has about 555K in front of him.

WSOP EVENT #31: $1.5K HORSE

Shannon Shorr and Bryan Micon have both busted from the $1.5K HORSE tournament during the last level. Shorr was eliminated in fifth place during a round of razz, earning $50,881. Micon was the next to go. He hit the rail in the fourth place playing Stud H/L. Micon will take home $69,505 for his finish.

WSOP 2009 Event #33 $10K LHE

Barry Greenstein’s quest for more player of the year points has been cut short. After sinking below 20K, Barry got the last of his stack in with QQ but was trumped by an opponent’s AA. The board was clean, and The Bear hit the rail.

Lex “RaSZi” Velduis was a little bit luckier than Greenstein. Velduis doubled with A8 against Greg “FBT” Mueller’s QJ, and now sits with over 70K in chips.
