Tristan Must Wade ‘Til Next Year by Jill on 07.06.08, 10:24 pm

Meanwhile, in the Tropical Room, only thing audible was the sound of chips ruffling. We caught up with Jim “KrazyKanuck” Worth (pictured at right) who explained he’s been having a rollercoaster of a day. He said that at one point, he was down to 8K after being all-in with a flush draw and bricking out. He also said he had to lay down a flopped set against a straight on the board, but managed to chip up to about 23K. Now at 18K, Jim was looking to stop the chip swings and take a nice, relaxing dinner break.

At the other corner of the Tropical Room, we caught up with Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade (pictured below) who protected a 5K stack, up from an earlier crippled 3K. He expressed frustration to PocketFives with how the deck hit him in earlier levels. In one hand we witnessed, he limped into a pot with several other players and the board ran out J-T-J. The table checked down and a king fell on the turn; Tristan bet out 600 and the table folded to him. He threw A-Q face-up into the muck for a turned Broadway straight and raked in the pot.

However, on the next hand, Tristan’s hopes for the bracelet were dashed. He bet out 800 preflop from middle position and was immediately called. The flop came QQ8 and, first to act, he bet 1,200. His opponent insta-raised him to 3K. Tristan moved all-in for 5,375 more and got the call. The turn was the A and Tristan’s A9 flush draw picked up a couple additional outs. But the 5 on the river couldn’t catch him up to the other player’s Q-X and he packed his bags up to head for the rail just before dinner break. Another recent elimination was Adam “adamoos” Elpayaa.

Big Slick No Good for Glasser by Crystal on 07.06.08, 8:01 pm

Players just returned from their second break of the day and the tournament clock says that the total number of enrants to this years WSOP Main Event now stands at 6,843 which trumps last years registration of 6,358 by 485 players.

Michael “inissint” Glasser (pictured at right) saw his main event dreams end when he got the remainder of his stack in preflop with the AK which was behind to his opponents JJ. The board ran out T7664 and Glasser was sent to the rail. Mike “MGinVA” Gallo was also eliminated when his pocket kings were against pocket eights and his opponent hit an eight on the river to end Gallo’s day. Eric “Willing2Die” Sonstegard, Bryan “odiggitydog” Oshea, and Andrew “tiltyjoker” Lee were also eliminated during the last level.

Brett “Gank” Jungblut was spotted in a hand with Allen Cunningham. With the board reading AK73T and only 1.2k in the pot Gank bet 600 and Cunningham said “I know it’s a bluff” before evenually folding his hand. Brett then showed Cunningham his QJ and Cunningham laughed and said “I guess it wasn’t a bluff” as Brett scooped up the little pot.

Across the room Shane “Shaniac” Schleger, Greg “Funkii” Dyer, and Ben “bfineman” Fineman were all in a pot with three other players. All six players checked the flop of QJ3 and saw the 6 peel off on the turn. This is where things got a little more confusing. Action checked around to Shane who bet 600. Greg made the call and then Ben, who was in the small blind, check-raised to 2.4k. Everyone else got out of the way, Shane folded, and Greg called Ben’s raise. The 5 came on the river and Ben led out for 4.5k. Greg tanked for a bit before eventually folding and Ben scooped the pot.

Eights Are Great by Crystal on 07.06.08, 7:01 pm

Ryan “youngluck” Young is sitting a little prettier than he was earlier. Young raised to 550 from under the gun and a player in late position called. The small blind raised to 2k and Young made the call but the other player folded. The flop came 852 and the small blind checked over to Young who bet 2.5k. The small blind then check-raised to 6k. Young thought for a little bit before he pushed all in and the small blind, who had Young covered, made the call. The small blind flipped over the AA but his aces were no match for Young’s flopped set with the 88. The turn and river were the K and the 7 and Young doubled up to a little more than 35k.

Ryan “Daut44″ Daut (pictured at left) was having a hot run of cards when we caught up to his table. Ryan held a 20K stack and had just shoved all his chips into the middle on a board of J-K-2-7-A when he was in the under the gun position; a player in late position with a similarly-sized stack called him and the All-In paddle flew up in the air. Ryan flipped over pocket jacks for a flopped set and his opponent mucked his cards, leaving a crippled stack behind.

The next hand from the big blind, Ryan did not use his option to check and instead made a 2K raise preflop. All players remarked on the huge raise, but the several limpers sent their chips his way. Two hands later, from the button, Ryan called down a 600 chip raise from a player in middle position and the flop came 66K. Both players remaining in the hand checked down the flop and the turn to see the board run out 2Q. His opponent checked to him on the river and he flipped over pocket eights, which were good enough to pick up the pot and increase his stack to 34K.

Though not a comprehensive list, here are some of the recent chip counts.

Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg - 39k
Hevad Khan - 35.5K
Michael “shipitthisway” McNeil - 35k

Friedberg Paid Off with P5s by Brett on 07.06.08, 5:43 pm

Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg hit the flop of all flops near the end of Level 1. With the board reading KQ5, the big blind led out for 1K and Friedberg and another player called. The 4 fell on the turn and the big blind bet 2K. The player under the gun folded and Friedberg raised to 7.5K. His opponent called and both players saw the T hit on the river. Friedberg shoved his last 11K into the pot, having his opponent covered, and he called quickly with KQ. Friedberg, however, showed 55 for a flopped set and raked a massive pot to increase his stack to 40K.
