Grant Hinkle Wins Event #2 by Jessica on 06.04.08, 3:22 pm

The enormous field of Event #2 - $1.5K NLHE has finally been whittled down from 3929 to one.  During heads up play with Grant Hinkle (pictured at left) and James Akenhead, Hinkle raised from the button, Akenhead reraised, and Hinkle moved all-in.  James made the call with A K and Grant tabled T 4.  It looked like Hinkle had picked the wrong time to bluff his opponent until the flop came T T 4 .  If the flopped full house was not enough, the T on the turn gave Grant quads and eliminated James Akenhead in 2nd place.  He took $520,219 for his efforts.  Grant Hinkle won the bracelet in addition to $831,462 in prize money.

Two more bracelet winners will be crowned before the day is over.  The $1.5K PL Hold Em final table begins at 2pm today.  The current chip leader is Joe Tehan.  Other players at the table include David Singer, Robert “PlayaPlz” Lipkin, and Zachary “Carter” King.

At 3pm the final table of the $5K Mixed Limit Hold Em event begins.  The current chip leader is David Rheem, whose chip stack sits at 885K.  Full Tilt Poker is well represented at the table by Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer, and Roland de Wolfe, who will have to contend with Rheem, Isaac Haxton, Bodog’s David Williams and Justin Bonomo, Andrew Robl, and Pat Pezzin.

Several other events will continue play today.  The $1K NL Hold Em with rebuys begins Day 2 play at 2pm and the $1.5K Limit Omaha 8 event resumes at 5pm.  Both events will play down to the final table.

The day kicks off with Event #7 - $2K NL Hold Em and Event #8 - $10K World Championship of Mixed Games will begin at 5pm.  Players we will be watching in the $2K event include Tom “titantom32″ Braband, Devin “tranquilchaos” Porter, Darren Elias, and Nick “fu_15″ Maimone

Controversy Delays End of Day 2 for 1.5k NL Event #2 by AdamJ on 06.03.08, 7:38 am

As eyelids drew closer and closer to being shut, an apparent accident delayed the end of Day 2 to an even later time than anticipated.

After a player in seat 2 busted two players in an all-in preflop pot, Thomas Fuller, who was sitting in seat 3, left his seat to talk to the rail.

The drama drawn from the three way all-in would pale in comparison to what would follow seconds later.

As the chips were being shipped to the player in seat 2 from seats 4 and 5 who got busted, chips in Thomas Fuller’s stack were accidently moved in seat 2’s stack by the player compiling his chips, prompting the floor to have to check surveillance to sort out the untimely mess.

Dealing with losing chips by a draw out can be frustrating enough, but an entirely different feeling consumed Fuller when he returned to his seat and what he estimated as 90 percent of his 300k stack vaporized while he left the table.

Ten minutes later the ordeal was resolved and the tournament resumed.

Before the mishap, the 32 remaining players seemed to be more focused on predicting how long it would take for the end of play for Day 2, which concludes when the tournament reaches the final nine players remaining.

One players prediction evoked an animated reaction out of Perry Friedman.

“I’ll bet you 5k this event will go past 9 a.m.,” he said, as he stated how many levels and breaks were left.

When one player began to speculate if there was a chance a concession would be made and they may not have to play down to nine, Theo Tran (pictured right) alluded to the 2006 HORSE event that turned into a marathon session for the final two tables.

“If they’re not going to going to stop for Doyle, they’re definetely not going to stop for us,” Tran said.

Friedman’s 9 a.m. handicap was an interesting guess given the playdown day to the final table of the 2006 HORSE event went from 2 p.m. to 9 a.m., effectively the same schedule as this 1.5k NL event #2.

Despite being noticeabley exhausted throughout the morning, Theo Tran’s stack ascended to the chip lead with over 1.5 million.

Other notable players remaining include Chris Ferguson, David Bach, and Perry Friedman.

Late Night for Event #2 Players, Event #3 Already Hand for Hand by Crystal on 06.03.08, 3:27 am

As the clock ticked past midnight in the Amazon room, there were still more than 70 players remaining in the $1.5k NLHE Event #2 field. They will play down to the final nine players tonight no matter how long it takes, then they will resume play ten hours from the time they finish tonight. Although there have been some big hands, players are not dropping at a high rate so play may last well into the morning.

As for Event #3, the $1.5k PLHE event that just started this morning, they are already hand for hand with only one player left to be eliminated before they reach the money. Players dropped like flies all day until they neared the money bubble and now play has slowed down significantly. Only 24 minutes remain until they cease play for the evening so it is actually possible that the delay that the hand for hand play causes might mean that the bubble won’t actually pop tonight…

…Or maybe it will! Hand for hand play just ended and the 72 remaining players will receive at least $2,725.

Shaniac Regrets Limping With Kings by Crystal on 06.03.08, 2:28 am

Shane “shaniac” Schleger is out of the $1.5k event. After limping on his button with KK Schleger and two other players saw a flop of T75. The other players checked and Schleger bet 8k only to be min-raised by the player in the big blind. The third player folded and Schleger re-raised to 56k. The big blind re-raised yet again to 135k and Schleger called putting himself all in. The big blind showed the 75 for a flopped two pair and Schleger’s kings failed to catch up knocking him out of the tournament.

Over in the $5k Mixed Hold Em event, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner was involved in a interesting hand during a section of limit hold em. Turner (on the button) and one other player limped into the pot preflop along with both blinds. The flop came QJ4, both blinds checked, and the next player bet. Turner called and then the player in the small blind raised. Everyone else folded to Turner who called. The 6 came on the turn, the small blind bet and Turner again called. The river brought a 6 and the small blind bet again only to be raised by Turner. The small blind called and Turner tabled the 65 for a busted flush draw that turned into trip sixes. The small blind mucked and Turner scooped up the pot.

One table over from Turner, Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke (pictured at left) was part of another interesting limit hand. After multiple raises preflop, three players saw a flop of KJ6. One player bet and another called before Fricke raised. Both players called the raise and they all saw the 2 on the turn. Action checked to Fricke who bet and again both of the other players called. A 2 came on the river and again they let Jimmy bet, only this time both of the other players folded allowing Jimmy to rake in a large pot for one measly bet on the river.
