Wrap Up by Jessica on 06.11.08, 4:53 am

Tom “Durrrr” Dwan was recently eliminated in 8th place from the $10K 2-7 single draw event, bubbling the final table. The remaining seven players are all known poker pros: Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Jeff Lisandro, Barry Greenstein, Tony G, David Benyamine, and Tom Schneider.

Day One of the $1.5K PLO tournament is complete and a mere 46 of the original 759 entrants remain. Vanessa Selbst, Eugene Todd (bro), Carter “devinr12″ Gill are currently the top three in chips. Others still in the event include Jordan “iMsolucky0″ Morgan and Jamie “TheNew” Robbins. They will all return at 2pm tomorrow to play down to the final table.

Event #16’s race for the $2K Omaha Hi/Lo bracelet and a grand prize of has been reduced to a three-way contest between chipleader Ted Forrest, Andrew Brown, and Jim Pechac. With 1.8M in chips, Forrest has Brown outchipped 6:1, and Pechac barely hung on with 125K in chips. One could almost taste the grand prize of $226,483 at the table as the event nears its inevitable end.

The Limit Hold’em contest entered the last level of the evening and one of the first to be eliminated was Eric “EFro” Froehlich, who went all-in with this short stack on the small blind. Two players called his raise and his QJ couldn’t hold up. Other recent eliminations include Aaron “NDGrind59″ Steury, Bryan Micon, Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich, Justin Bonomo, and Kevin “BeL0waB0ve” Saul. Fear not, however, as some PocketFivers, like Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar (pictured at left), remain. Play concludes within the hour and will resume tomorrow afternoon to fight down to the final table.

Riskky Business by Jill on 06.11.08, 3:18 am

Eliminated in 7th place at tonight’s final table for Event #16, Scott “BigRiskky” Clements took home $36,232 in his second final table appearance in this year’s World Series of Poker. From under the gun, Scott opened with a raise, only to be met by a reraise from chipleader Ted Forrest. The big blind also got in on the action, inspiring him to jam it all in when the action returned to him. Both players called and the board came 4J5Q5. Scott mucked his hand and exited the tournament, making his third cash of the series and second final table elimination.

The $1.5K shootout has finally reached heads up play after nine and a half hours of play today and a marathon session of poker yesterday.  After playing one of the longest sessions of poker on Day One, John “Ihave3pair” Strzemp was eliminated in 3rd place when he moved all-in on the river as a bluff and was called by Mike Schwartz, who held top pair.  He will earn $129,675 for his efforts.

Both of the remaining players, Jason Young and Mike Schwartz, had an extremely long Day One as well, with their second tables not concluding until after 5am this morning.  With less than seven hours off in between, fatigue is becoming a major factor in this final stage of play.

The $5K No-Limit 2-7 Draw w/ Rebuys also neared completion for the evening as the players duked it out for spots at the final table. Tom “durrrr” Dwan continued to push around his opponents with his big stack; he remained near the top of the count with 510K.

Take It to the Limit by Jill on 06.11.08, 2:13 am

Though it’s hard to believe that Event #20 is already underway, the Limit Hold’Em field still remains chock-full of PocketFives players. The average stack was 6.5K with the blinds at 100/200. About 320 players remained of the original field of 480 and Jon “PearlJammer” Turner (pictured at right) continued to aggressively amass chips, taking down 2K in chips in two hands while PocketFivesLive reporters watched.

In one hand, Turner raised 400 from late position before the flop, which came 942. He bet out after the flop for 400 more and the turn came the 9. After the turn, he tickled the table with 400 more chips, was called by one other player, and rivered the 7. After betting the river once more, his opponent folded and he won the pot. Meanwhile, Adam “Roothlus” Levy and Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman were railing Brock “t_soprano” Parker and Kevin “BeL0waB0ve” Saul, who are currently seated side by side at the same table. Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg, Todd “Dan Druff” Witteles, and Shaun Deeb were eliminated from the tournament recently, but the following P5ers continued to nurse their chipstacks:

Jon “PearlJammer” Turner - 11K
Aaron “NDGrinder59″ Steury - 10K
Justin Bonomo - 8K
Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson - 8K
Kevin “BeL0waB0ve” Saul - 7K
Shannon Shorr - 7K
Eric “EFro” Froelich - 3.5K
Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich - 3K
Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar - 3K

At the $2K Omaha Hi/Lo event, another player has replaced Scott “BigRiskky” Clements as the short stack after a painful showdown with the current chipleader, Ted Forrest. The excitement was tangible as many big-name players came to rail the remaining seven players. Mike Matusow man-hugged Clements as he approached and was then seen autographing $100 bills for onlookers as he explained he had more than a friendly investment in the tournament, backing Jim Pechac for 10% of his earnings. PocketFives continues to follow this tournament as the players fight for the $226,483 payout and major bragging rights.

Sit and Go Shangri-la by Brett on 06.10.08, 3:23 pm

The $1.5K NLHE Shootout final table will be crowded with P5ers as it gets kicked off at 2:00 PT today. Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker, Tom “SBRounder” West, Matthew “hazards21″ Giannetti, Casey “ccmuney” Coleman and John “Ihave3pair” Strzemp will battle for the bracelet and first-place prize of $335,565. Each will start with 300K chips, and after the long day of play we saw in the event yesterday, it could make for one of the lengthier final tables of the World Series.

The final two tables of the $2K Omaha Hi/Lo Event will get underway at 3:00 PT. Scott “BigRiskky” Clements and Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke will be seated side-by-side at table 15. Clements (228K) is third in chips and Fricke is short with 33K. Clements, who has already made an Omaha final table this year, is searching for his third bracelet in as many years.

Also concluding today will be the $1K ladies event at 2:00 PT. Meanwhile, the $1.5K Pot-Limit Omaha Event (#19) just began and the $2K Limit Hold’em (Event #20) is set to start at 5:00 PT. Good luck to everyone playing today!

Second West by Jessica on 06.10.08, 5:59 am

Just a couple of days after his brother, Tim, reached the final table of the first shootout event of the 2008 WSOP Tom “SBRounder” West has reached the final table of the second one.  As we noted earlier, Tom had a 2-1 chip advantage over his opponent.  The two maintained a casual conversation throughout the match as they exchanged chips back and forth in smaller pots.  On the last hand, West’s opponent raised on the button and Tom reraised enough to put him all in.  The player quickly made the call with A-K and Tom looked to be in bad shape until a jack came on the flop, sealing the victory for him.

After he wrapped up things at his table, West wandered over to check on Garrett “GBecks” Beckman whose table, which includes P5er Sarvesh “Serbie” Pershad, is still playing 4-handed.  Craig “MrCasino” Gray managed to double up his short stack 3-handed at his table only to get it all in with K-J against his opponent’s A-J.  Matthew “Hazards21″ Giannetti’s table has been playing 5-handed for quite a while and looks to be one of the tables that still has quite a bit of play to go.

One table that doesn’t have any more play left is Casey “ccmuney” Coleman, who just claimed one of the spots at the final table.  After knocking out the third player when he got it all in with A-10 to Casey’s pocket queens, Coleman chipped away at his heads up opponent, eventually winning the table and advancing to play again tomorrow.

In the $2K Omaha we have yet to reach the final table, but the remaining players, which still include Jimmy Fricke and Scott Clements, will be stopping play at 3am and returning tomorrow afternoon to play down to a winner.
