Deep Stacks by Court on 04.19.08, 3:56 pm

The blinds start at 50/100, skipping the usual 25/50 level that most World Poker Tour events start with. This is more than made up for by the 50k chip starting stacks. The day starts with each player having 500 big blinds and there is a long way to go before the blinds become a pressing factor on the average stacks in the tournament.

The schedule for the day is to play 5 levels of 90 minutes each with a 15 minute break between each level.

WPT Championship Day 1A by Court on 04.19.08, 3:21 pm

The $25,000 buyin World Poker Tour Championship event is just getting under way with players slated for Day 1A taking their seats at the tables. The room is half empty, indicative of the lower than expected turnout. Satellites are still running and many players are traveling from other events and chose to play day 1B, so tomorrow’s field will be larger, but this tournament is going to fall well short of the over 600 players that entered last year.

The field today is full of well known names though. Scott “BigRiskky” Clements, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little, Joe Sebok and Jonathan “HoosierAlum” Depa were a few of the faces that popped up in a quick glance around the room along with recent Foxwoods WPT Champion Erik Seidel and San Jose victor Brandon Cantu.
