Record Field at End of Day 1A, Stout Doubles Through Roberts by AdamJ on 06.01.08, 2:21 am

Nearing the end of day 1A of the 1.5k NL event, Matt “All in At 420″ Stout picked up a key hand at just the right time to advance Day 2 on Monday.

With the blinds at 500-1000 with a 100 ante, a player from middle position opened to 3k and Brent “Astrolux85″ Roberts went all-in for 16k with AQ.

By the time the action got back to Stout he peeked at AA and went all-in for his remaining 15k.

Stout’s aces prevailed without a sweat, sending Roberts to rail minutes before the tournament closed at the 225 cutoff.

The tournament closed at 225 players to ensure that there would be a money bubble after both starting days concluded.

With one of the biggest stacks throughout the day, Shane “Shaniac” Schleger ascended to chip lead nearing the end of the day before his stack took a hit, dipping down to 88k.

Schleger’s table got progressively tougher as the day went on, ending with a lineup of Todd “DanDruff” Witteles, Todd Brunson, Gavin Griffin, and Bill Gazes.

The 1.5k NL event broke a record for entries for a preliminary WSOP tournament with 3,692 entries, shattering last year’s tally of 3,151 set during the final week of last year’s WSOP and will likely balloon to an even larger number until registration closes tomorrow.
