Bowker Goes Busto by Crystal on 06.19.08, 6:30 pm

In the $1.5k PLO w/Rebuys tourney only six players have been eliminated in the first hour of play. Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby, Dan “Stainley88″ Adams, and Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker are amongst the early casualties who weren’t able to cash in this event.

Bowker’s elimination came when he got it all preflop with a great drawing hand, the AKQT against his opponents 9877. The flop of 872 gave Bowker a flush draw and his opponent two pair. Unfortunately for Bowker, the 8 came on the turn giving his opponent a full house and left Bowker drawing dead.

Jeff “yellowsub” Williams raised preflop only to have a short stack push all in. Jeff made the call with the AKQ9 which was behind to the all-in’s KK54. The board ran out KJ6Q7 and William’s stack dropped to around 60k.

In the $1.5K No Limit Hold Em event, several P5ers are already running up their stacks.  With the average chip count currently at 4,476, these guys are starting to themselves apart from the large field:

Gary “GB2005″ Bogdanski (pictured at left) - 13K
Noah “fouruhaters” Schwartz - 11.5K
Aaron “NDGrinder59″ Steury - 11K
Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg - 10K
Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach - 9K
Craig “MrCasino” Gray - 9K
Brent “bhanks11″ Hanks - 8K

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Jessica on 06.09.08, 11:59 pm

The $2.5K NLHE final table wrapped up earlier this evening with Duncan “Pumper” Bell taking down the title after he eliminated Steve Merrifield with pocket aces to Merrifield’s pocket tens.  Bell takes home the bracelet and the first place prize of $666,777.  Shawn Buchanan finished 4th, earning $218,491.

Nearly 8.5 hours after play in the $1.5K shootout began, we are still not done with Round One.  A lone table with two players remain and they continue to trade chips back and forth.  Round Two is scheduled to kcik off at 9pm, but it remains to be seen if these players will cause the start time to be delayed.  Meanwhile, the remaining players in the shootout are doing everything they can to pass the time.  We spotted Casey “ccmuney” Coleman and Dan “Slowroll Me with Aces” Adams watching the triple draw and when we asked Casey if he was trying to pick up some tips on how to play the game, he told us that he had just gotten bored sitting at an empty table waiting for his event to start.  Check back in later tonight for updates on Casey, Chris “sooooted” Vaughn, Craig “Cash At Will” Gray, Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach, David “nutstr84444″ Redlin, Brian Lamanna, and others.

The $2K Omaha 8OB is nearing the money bubble, which will burst after 4 of the remaining 58 players are eliminated.  Aaron “NDGrinder59″ Steury busted earlier today, but Scott “BigRiskky” Clements and Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke remain towards the top of the chip counts.

Hanks for Playing by Brett on 06.09.08, 8:12 pm

Brent “bhanks11″ Hanks (pictured left) lost a crucial 1 million chip pot when he got it all in with AK on the flop of AK5 against the 78 of Steve Merrifield. The turn brought the 9, giving Merrifield four more outs, and the Q spelled disaster for Hanks as his stack was slashed down to 250K. He was later taken out by Merrifield when he shoved A2 and was unable to outdraw the AT of his nemesis. Hanks took 5th place for $178,327.

In the $1.5K NLHE Shootout, Jon Wein recently doubled to grab the chip lead at his table. With the blinds at 150/300, the button moved all in but had the small blind and Wein covered. Wein called off his remaining 6K with JJ and was in a race sitaution against AK. The J on the flop increased Jon’s lead and the board bricked for his opponent, shipping a 12K pot to Wein. He currently has almost half of the table’s chips with four remaining.

Chris “sooooted” Vaughn and Casey “ccmuney” Coleman advanced to Round 2 and Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach (6K), Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar (10K) and Tony “Bond18″ Dunst (14.5K) were all heads up in Event #17 as we went into a 20-minute break. Others still battling away are Stu “thedonator” Patterson (3-handed, 10K), Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi (4-handed, 9K), Craig “MrCasino” Gray (3-handed, 15K) and Tim “Tim0thee” Adams (2-handed, 14.5K).

Dan “Stainley88″ Adams elimination from the shoot out was particularly painful. Dan moved all in pre-flop with pocket queens and another player tanked for what Dan said was almost two minutes. He asked for a count of Adams’ chips and stood up, clearly conflicted about what to do. He eventually made the call and turned up…pocket aces. Dan subtly suggested the player was slowrolling him and his opponent insisted it wasn’t intentional. He then apologetically explained to Adams that, “he just didn’t like having to call so much with pocket aces.” It worked out for him this time though, as the board was no help to Adams and the other player is currently heads-up at his shoot out table.

Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck has just exited the $1K Ladies Event in 35th place. Mayrick got the rest of her chips in with AQ and couldn’t get the best of her opponent’s 88 on a board of 877Q5. She picked up her second cash of the Wrodl Series for $4,765.

Wolpert Keeps Building by Jessica on 06.02.08, 8:54 pm

Leo Wolpert (pictured at right) got his 600 chips back plus a little extra when he busted Craig Gray in a coin flip situation.  He now sits at around 25k.  Dan “Stainley88″ Adams’ chip stack has been heading in the opposite direction and he is down to 3k.

The prize pool and payouts were announced after players returned from a short break.  A total of 713 players entered Event #3 and the top 77 will get paid.  1st place will be taking home $214,131.

A third event is getting underway today.  Event #4 is a $5k mixed limit hold em event and is also the first evening event of this year’s world series.  Several players who busted out of Event #3 earlier today are going to be taking advantage of the late start and playing.  Some of those players include Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Joe Sebok, Eric “Rizen” Lynch, and last night’s Event #1 runner-up, Andy Bloch.

Now that Event #2 is into the money action has rapidly picked up. Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg, Mike “SirWatts” Wattel, Antuan “bigboybunk” Bunkley, Bobby “Pupkin” Crosby and Matt “All In At 420″ Stout were all eliminated in the last level. Stout got his money in preflop with AQ against an opponent’s AK and failed to improve on a board of KJ663.

Several P5ers are among the 240 players still alive, including Shane Scheleger (100K), Stuart “The Donator” Patterson (95K), Dom “piscopo2911″ Cuzzi (30K) and Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck (10K). Mayrinck claims she’s on “monkey tilt” but hopefully the recent 20-minute break has cured it.

Ambrose and Fohrenbach Chip up, Adams up to 10K by Jessica on 06.02.08, 5:09 pm

Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach raised to 250 on the button and Alex Jacob called from the big blind.  The flop came Q 4 3 with two clubs, Jacob checked, and Fohrenbach bet out 325.  Jacob, who had just less than 2K left in chips repotted and Richard reraised enough to put him all in.  Jacob called and showed A A while Fohrenbach held 4 4 for a set.  The turn and river were no help to Jacob and he was eliminated.  Richard is now up to 4.5K.

Steve Paul-Ambrose also took down a big pot in Level 2 when he moved all-in for 3.8K on a board of 2 5 5 Q T.  His opponent made the call and mucked when Ambrose showed Q Q for the full house.  He now has around 9K in chips.

Some other players who have been increasing their stacks during this level include:

Dan “Stainley88″ Adams (pictured at right) - 10K
Michael “BOBCATSPEGAL” Spegal - 8K
Leo “Superfluous Man” Wolpert - 7K

Recent eliminations: Phil “USCPHILDO” Collins, Rob “MrE2all” Edwards, Isaac Haxton, Tony “Bond18″ Dunst, and Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, who will be back to play the 5K mixed hold em event later this afternoon.

Day 2 of Event #2 starts at 2pm.  Remaining players include Chris Vaughn, Aaron Kanter, Evan “Oakplayer” Schwartz, Antuan “bigboybunk” Bunkley, and Dominick “piscopo1129″ Cuzzi.  Not in the field? Chris “brsavage” Savage, who has been home in Louisiana this entire time.
