Ivey and Freeman Both Busted Early by Court on 08.24.08, 6:58 pm

The starting stack at the Legends of Poker World Poker Tour event was 30,000 chips. The first level of blinds was 50 / 100 and goes up to 75 / 150 for the seconds level. 20,000 chips is still a pretty healthy amount, but Phil Ivey seemed to lose interest and reportedly opened with an all in bet for 20,000, later telling the table he had not looked at his cards. Brian Rast called with pocket kings and Ivey had the stellar holding of 3-2 offsuit, giving credence to the claim he had not looked at his cards.

The kings held up and Ivey was the first elimination of the day. The chips continue to pile up on the table Ivey started on though. Not too long after Ivey found a way to get out the door Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman was headed in the same direction. Allen Cunningham knocked Freeman out of the tournament and now has over 60k going into the second level.

Legends of Poker Day 1B by Court on 08.24.08, 5:47 pm

The second flight of day 1 players are at the tables and ready to go at the Bicycle casino. The field for today is definitely larger than yesterdays 161, but by how much is yet to be seen. The field is heavy with well known pros and there are a few interesting table draws right off the bat.

Jared “The WacoKidd” Hamby is sitting two seats to the left of Barry Greenstein, with Layne Flack and Mark Seif also at the table. Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman is looking across his table at two of the top players in the game, Phil Ivey and Allen Cunningham. Ari Engel and Matt “Mattg1983″ Graham are at the same table along with Daniel Negreanu to start the day, guaranteeing a lot of attention from spectators and media throughout the day.

Some other faces that popped up early on include Peter “Nordberg” Feldman, Shane “Schaniac” Schleger, Scott “BigRiskky” Clements, Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo, Chad “lilholdem” Batista, Jordan “iMsoLucky0″ Morgan, and Peter “#1Pen” Neff.

Chip Counts Galore! by Brett on 06.27.08, 9:21 pm

Jeff “jeffboski” Sluzinski got involved in a battle of words with a player at his $2,000 No Limit Hold’em table, and ended up being an unfortunate victim of a cooler against the same player. Sluzinski (pictured left) and his nemesis built a pot of nearly 24K preflop, Sluzinski having him covered but his AK trailing KK. The J52 flop looked bleak for Jeff but he picked up a flush draw when the 6 landed on the turn. Adam “akat11″ Katz and a few others walked over to watch the 7 fall on the river, leaving Sluzinski with a mere 2K at the 150/300 level.

A couple tables over, Dan “Wretchy” Martin tripled his stack to 18K when won a three-way all in preflop. With the blinds at 150/300, a player raised to 1,500 under the gun and the button flat called. Martin moved in for 4,600 more and both players called, with the under-the-gun player showing 9-9 and the button 6-6. Martin’s hand managed to hold up as he made a flush on the river and he is now well above the average stack.

With 650 players still alive and the average stack at 12K in Level 6, here are some notable chip counts in Event #48:

Eric “jakz101″ Crain - 50.5K (pictured right)
Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson - 40K
Dan “voff” Deveau - 31K
Jason “JCarver” Somerville - 25K
Danny “MrRadditz” Radditz - 24K
Scott “ssitron” Sitron - 15K
Peter “Nordberg” Feldman - 14K
David “DavidP18″ Peters - 13K
Thayer Rasmussen - 12.5K
Jeremy “Chipsteela” Menard - 12K
Adam “akat11″ Katz - 12K
Stu “thedonator” Paterson -11K
Garrett “GBecks” Beckman - 10K
Bryan Micon - 10K
Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin - 10K
Jeff “YoungSupremacy” Hakim - 9.5K
Carter “ckingusc” King - 7.5K
Noah “fouruhaterz” Schwartz - 7K
Steven “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer - 7K
Jon Wein - 6.5K
Jeff “crzysavage” Gressard - 4K
Tim “TMay420″ West - 3.7K
Brent “bhanks11″ Hanks - 2K

Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman finished fourth in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em w/Rebuys event for $223,572. Freeman was eliminated by Rene Mouritsen when he re-shoved a button raise by Mouritsen from the big blind with A7 and walked right into Rene’s AK. The board didn’t help Freeman, who was somewhat disappointed with his fourth-place finish but overall happy with his play during the three days.

Radditz, Fineman Among Chip Leaders of Event 48 by Brett on 06.27.08, 7:17 pm

Danny “MrRadditz” Radditz and Ben “bfineman” Fineman are two of the early chip leaders of today’s $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event. Radditz (pictured right) began the day in the Brasilia Room, where he chipped up to 21,125 chips before being moved to the blue section of the Amazon Room. “Hopefully I’m a luckbox over here, too!” he said as he began re-stacking his chips. Radditz is in great spirts, chatting away with the players at his table and even Mike Matusow, who is nearby.

Fineman has built his stack to over 25K early on after being seated at a tough table early that included Kevin “WiCane” Pionkowsi. Also toward the top of the Event 48 leaderboard early are Peter “Nordberg” Feldman, who busted out in 12th place this morning in the $1,000 No Limit Hold ‘em with Rebuys event, Blair Rodman and Matt “AllInAt420″ Stout.

Scott “BigRiskky” Clements was one of many early exits in Day 1, getting his chips in with 67 on a 874 board, but couldn’t catch up to the pocket jacks of Liv Boeree. There are worse ways to go out, Scott.

Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul also met his demise early. Saul doubled his stack to 8K before the first 20-minute break, but in Level 3 he squeezed over a raiser and flat caller preflop with AK and found himself up against the AA of another player and failed to improve.

The ESPN Final Table Arena has been echoing with hoots and howls as several players have their friends on hand to watch the action in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em w/Rebuys event. Five of the original nine have been already eliminated, including the chip leader coming in, Jesse Chinni. Chinni got all of his chips in with AK against the AA of Rene Mouritsen and was unable to hit a miracle. Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman has been quiet early but still has nearly 500K chips at 12K/24K — plenty enough to maneuver with.

Also starting at 2 pm today is day 2 of the $5k NLHE six-handed event #46 where players such as Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Shannon Shorr, Glen “choron” Chorny, Jason “tresfull21″ Mercier, and Jason Gray will be trying to run deep and make the money. 96 players will begin play today but only 78 will make the money.
