WSOP 2008
Despite rebuilding his short stack to a more respectable level at 28k, Ryan “Daut44″ Daut (pictured right) lost it all back in big confrontation with Clonie Gowen in the 10k PLO WSOP Event #50.
Gowen raised to 4.5k and Daut reraised to 15k and Gowen called. Gowen checked to Daut on a 8

David “Raptor517″ Benefield lost a near 100k pot, dipping his 175k stack, one of the biggest stacks left, to around 120k. Benefield flopped a set eights to his opponents pockets aces and a nut flush draw and lost when his opponent hit a runner-runner straight.
Here’s a list of other notable chip stacks left with the average stack at 60k.
Shawn “buck21″ Buchanan - 130k
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements - 80k
Tom “durrrr” Dwan - 40k
Eric “Rizen” Lynch - 14k
The $1.5K No Limit Hold Em WSOP Event #49 is losing players at a feverish pace. There are currently 29 players remaining–slightly more than 1% of the intial 2,700 person field. Recent eliminations include Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar in 35th place and Hevad “Rain” Khan. Khan was involved in a 4-way limped pot when the flop came Q

Some notable chip counts of the remaining players include JC Tran (380K), Andy Black (305K), and Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg (170K).

Alex “42oneverloses” Case’s (pictured right)$26 investment on a Full Tilt satellite is looking pretty good as he is one of the top stacks at 78k in the 1.5k NL WSOP Event #49.
Case (pictured at right) won a monster hand about an hour ago when he raised K

and got three callers. On a Q

flop, Case was already looking at a bet and raise by the time it got to him. With his double draw, Case went all-in and ended up isolating against his opponents 5

Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg and J.C. Tran have seen their stack jump in the last hour. Friedberg currently sits with 42k and Tran with 75k.

After losing several key confrontations in the $2K No Limit Hold Em WSOP Event #48, Adam “akat11″ Katz was down to under 120K with the blinds at 6K/12K ante 1K when he got in a blind versus blind confrontation. Both Adam in the big blind and the player in the small blind were the shortest stacks at the table, so Katz was not surprised at all when the small blind shoved all-in after it folded around to him. Katz quickly made the call with 9

and was surprised to discover his opponent had a big hand as well–A
K
. Adam managed to win his race when the board ran out 8

and the other player was eliminated. After the hand, Katz was up to 240K.
Earlier, Eric “jakz101″ Crain bragged to Pocket Fives that he got a player to lay down pocket kings on a queen high flop. Well, apparently Eric is at it again. Crain raised to 30K preflop and another player then reraised to 90K. Eric shoved all-in for 327K more and the player thought for a couple of minutes. Eventually he announced, “I am going to lay this down” and mucked his pocket queens face up. A few minutes after the chips were pushed Eric’s way, his tablemate, Dan “Wretchy” Martin said what may have been on many people’s minds: “all I have to say to you sir is, ‘must be nice.’” Crain now has a 450K chip stack.
Some other notable chip counts with 26 players remaining include Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson (600K), Darren “DABADESTCHIC” Nelson (400K), and Dan “Wretchy” Martin (380K)

Getting the players (or maybe the dealers?) pumped up for today’s $1.5k NLHE event #32, the Black Eyed Peas song “Let’s Get It Started” was pumping through the sound system in the Amazon room again today as a field of nearly 2,000 players filed in to take their seats. The registration line for this event was out the door of the registration room and wrapped around through the hall 20 minutes before the start of the tournament so the total number of players will easily climb higher before registration closes.
There are numerous P5ers hitting the felt today in this immense field including Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar (pictured right), Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck, Senovio “DorsalFin” Ramirez, and Andy “BKiCe” Seth. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on these and many other P5ers as the day progresses.
Last night the final table of the $10k World Championship of LHE (event #30) was set and Brock “t_soprano” Parker is coming into the final table as the short stack with only 166k in chips while the current chip leader Aaron Katz has over 1.2 Million. Eric “EFro” Froehlich was eliminated in 12th place when his K

couldn’t catch up to the A

of J.C. Tran on a J

board. Froehlich takes home $35,861 for his great finish in this tournament. The final table will begin playing at 3 pm this afternoon.

Many players have made quick work of their heads-up opponent and the blue section of the Amazon room is already starting to feel a little empty. After Isaac Haxton made quick work Scott Fischman, he decided to stick around and observe the other match taking place on his table (each table has two matches taking place on them). Eventually the tournament director announced to Haxton and the other players whose matches were complete that they needed to clear the tournament area until Round 2 starts at 5pm.
Players still competing in their matches also can’t help but watch the second match taking place at their tables, especially during the downtime while dealers are shuffling. Scott “BigRiskky” Clements was spotted peeking over at his neighbor Sammy Farha’s heads-up match on numerous occassions, even when he was involved in a hand himself.
Aside from many of the match-ups being quite compelling with a field ripe with notable pros, most players were watching the other match at their table because the winners from the same table play each other in the next round. For many of the players, especially those with a high stakes background online, concrentating on multiple heads-up matches is standard fare as many of them play multiple heads-up matches simultaneously online.
P5er’s Leo “Superfluos Man” Wolpert (pictured at right) and Craig “MrCasino” Gray must have left the Amazon room feeling like they were set up as their monster hands left them with a nightmare. Wolpert raised the button preflop and Robert Mizrachi called. On a flop of A
3
7
, Mizrachi check called Wolpert’s flop bet. The turn brought the 9
and Mizrachi check-raised Wolpert, who went all-in and was quickly called by Mizrachi, who turned over his 3
3
making Wolpert’s A
K
drawing dead.
Gray’s hand ended in similar fashion. Gray’s opponent raised the button and Gray called. On a flop of Q
J
9
, Gray check called his opponents bet of 1300. The 7
dropped on the turn and Grey check raised his opponent bet of 3300, going all-in for another 11,500. Gray’s opponent called revealing J
J
, ahead of Gray’s double draw with the Q
8
. Gray’s big draw bricked out and he was eliminated.
With such a diverse collection of incredible live and online pro’s, there was handful of intriguing match-ups scattered throughout the room like David “Raptor517″ Benefield vs Justin Bonomo, Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis vs Kenny Tran and Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi vs J.C. Tran.
Bonomo and Kenny Tran prevailed in their match and Mizzi and Tran continue to battle it out.
It took Eugene Todd and Michael Mizrachi only one hand to end their match although it had little to do with any drama on the felt. Both being good friends, they decided to go all-in blind and Mizrachi’s 8-2 prevailed over Todd’s 4-3.

Theo Tran is running so good, he said he’s afraid to drive home.
Given his streak of luck today inside the Amazon room, it’s hard to blame him for not wanting to leave.
Thanks to a hot streak of cards and strong play, Tran became the first player to final table two WSOP events this summer.
Tran finishing 4th in WSOP Event #2, 1.5k NL earlier this week.
A little luck expedited Tran’s run to the final table.
Ten handed with blinds at 6k-12k with a 1k ante, Tran opened for 40k from early position as the chip leader with 1.8 million. A player from middle position moved all-in for 200k and Tran called, exposing A
K
.
Tran agonized when he saw his opponents K
K
.
His feelings changed dramatically when the A
hit the flop and his opponents kings failed to catch-up, sealing the final table.
This will be Tran’s 4th WSOP final table. Last summer Tran came close the coveted WSOP bracelet when he finished second in the rebuy event.
Tran heads to the final table as chip leader with 1.884 million. Mihai Manole is second with 1.02 million.
Other notable players at the final table include Shannon Shorr with 627k, Alex Bolotin 345k, and J.C. Tran with 273k.
Despite not being as established as his counterparts on the tournament trail, Tom “durrrr” Dwan (pictured right) wasn’t afraid to speak his mind when a rule seemed unfair.
As a player busted deep in the WSOP Event #8 Mixed Championship, Dwan was informed that after every redraw 2-7 triple draw restarts as the next game.
“This is unfair, how can any game always be first, this should be random,” Dwan said. ”I have a big problem with this.”
High stakes pro David Oppenheim, sitting to Dwan’s left chimed in.
“I agree it’s unfair but it’s the rule,” Oppenheim said.
Greg “FBT” Mueller, also at Dwan’s table, agreed with Dwan but said “what can we do” in response to the fuming Dwan.
Not satisfied with “it’s the rule” as justification for its existence, Dwan continued to speak up.
Lee Watkinson came over and told him, ‘if we speak up we can change it.’
After a few minutes, a WSOP tournament director spoke up and announced they’d redraw a game at random.
When the tournament director announced No-Limit as the next game, which is Dwan’s specialty, Gus Hansen reminded Dwan how good he runs.
