Hanging On by Court on 09.29.08, 6:10 pm

Around 17 hours of play have passed since the players sat down with their starting stacks of 20k chips.  Tim “Tmay420″ West finished Day 1A a mere quarter shy of his starting stack and has been short for the entirity of day 2 play.  He is now down in the 10 big blind area where options are pretty much limited to pushing all in or folding your hand.

If good things come to those who are patient, there should be a bright future for West.  He has been the epitome of patience, folding ragged hand aftrer ragged hand.  Finally he did move in for exactly 9k (blinds are 500 / 1k with a 100 ante) and picked up the blinds.  Tim showed the 2 and another player at the table said “He’s not a super nit.”  Even playing the short stack West looks to be having as much fun as anyone.  Next up for him will almost surely be a double up or a bust.

The table with West and Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar (right) is short stacked all around with no huge stacks and most of the players below average.  A new addition to the table picked off a player when his aces held up against AK, and when the next table broke Jeff “ActionJeff” Garza found his way to the empty seat to the right of Tim and two seats to the left of Aguiar.  “Finally they brought a fish to the table,” Aguiar said in a sarcastic tone about Jeff’s arrival.

Brian “sbrugby” Townsend has jumped to the top of the chip counts, sitting with 260k.  Over at the feature table Jamie Rosen saw his day come to an end shortly after dinner. “Up and down,” pretty much summed up what Chris “Moorman1″ Moorman thought of his day so far.

Bag Em Up, Day 1B Complete by Court on 09.28.08, 9:38 pm

The clock has ran out on Day 1B play at the World Series of Poker Europe, presented by Betfair. For many, the day ended early as they were eliminated. For others day 1 was all about survival, and for the select few chip accumulation was the story of their starting day.

Daniel Negreanu and Jamie Rosen both stayed solid throughout the last few levels, Daniel finishing with over 150k and Rosen coming in at 139,225. Brian “sbrugby” Townsend (left) was able to get a double up late in the day when his pocket aces held up. He finished with a solid 71,950.

Adam Junglen had to toss a few hands late in the day, losing some ground but still finishing with 41,100. In one hand there was about 4k in the pot preflop and Junglen bet 2,400 on the K86 board. He was min raised to 4,800 and after asking how much the other player had behind (45k) Junglen tossed his hand in giving up on the pot. A little later he opened a pot for 1,050 and the same player he doubled up earlier with pocket fives losing to T-9 moved in over the top for 10,875. Junglen folded showing KQ offsuit and postulating that his opponent had ace rag.

Stephen “Stevie444″ Chidwick (right) had a rough end of the day as well. On a flop of J98 both players checked but with the K turn the other player led for 3k and Steve called. The river was the 6 and this time the bet was 8k to Steve, who had only about 20k total. He made the call only to see the other player turn over the QT for the nuts. That hand left Steve with around the 11,075 chips he finished the day with.

Below are some select chip counts. Full official counts from combined day 1 results are Available Here.

Daniel Negreanu - 154,050
Jamie Rosen - 139,225

Double Double (or Toil and Trouble) by Crystal on 07.11.08, 5:17 pm

After a little over an hour into play today at the WSOP Main Event it had been apparent that many of the players have the “go big or go home” mentality as we have heard the “all-in and a call!” shout coming from dealers numerous times all over the room. We’re already down to 408 of the 474 players that started the day.

Tracey “XtrACEy” Nguyen (pictured left) was caught in one of these confrontations, but she wasn’t the one at risk. She and a shorter stacked player got all the chips in preflop with Tracey’s 99 ahead of her opponents A3. The flop came T72 keeping Tracey in the lead but the A on the turn reversed things and the Q on the river changed nothing so Tracey doubled the other player up and dropped to around 380k in chips.

A player at risk during his all in was Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis who got all his chips in before the flop holding the QQ against another players TT. The board ran out K324J and Steve managed to double his stack up to around 350k.

Jamie “TheCronic420″ Rosen started the day with 576k in chips and seemed to be using his big stack to try and take out some of his weaker opponents. On a flop of T98 Rosen checked to his opponent who bet 40k. Jamie then raised to 100k and his shorter stacked opponent raised all in and Jamie made the call. The all-in player was ahead with the JT for top pair with an open-ended straight draw in the lead against Jamie’s 86 for a flush draw with a lesser-gutshot straight draw. The turn brought the A and the river was the 7 giving both players a straight but the all-in player held the better one and scooped up the pot knocking Jamie down to around 280k.

It didn’t take Jon “PearlJammer” Turner long to increase his 726k stack considerably in the first thirty minutes of play. The chips didn’t come easy however as Turner had to call an 85k river bet with his set of eights on a board with three hearts and a jack to a straight against his opponent Dustin Holmes. Turner’s hand was good, shipping him a pot near 300k. Turner won a few hands after that as well and is now near the one million mark.

Tim “TMay420″ West picked a good spot to get his last few chips in but was unable to outrace Brent “Astrolux85″ Roberts. Brent raised to 15K in early position and West moved in for 51K. Roberts made the call with AQ, which was behind Tim’s JJ. The 643 flop added a slew of outs for Roberts, and the 4 left West needing help. The K fell on the river and West was eliminated, earning $27,020 for his performance. Roberts chipped up to 360K.

Devin “TranquilChaos” Porter, on the other hand, was able to dodge a bunch of outs to double his stack. David “Bakes” Baker raised to 14K in middle position and Porter moved all in for 46K. Baker made the call, showing JT and Porter flipped over A6. Porter got out of his seat when he saw the flop of KQ7, saying “Well, see you later!” but his hand was able to hold when the 8 and 7 filled the board. Porter is up to over 100K.

Owen “ocrowe” Crowe continued his onslaught by eliminating a player and climbing over the 1 million chip mark. Crowe got his money in on the turn with 99 on a board of 9247 and had his opponent drawing dead. He now has nearly 1.3 million, which is right near the top of the leaderboard.

Here’s a look at some chip counts midway through the first level on Day 4:

Peter “number1pen” Neff - 660K
Keith “damurdera3″ Fererra - 615K
Paul “ComeOnPhish” Lieu - 600K
David “raptor517″ Benefield - 540K
Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg - 475
Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis - 415K
Mark “AceSpades” Radoja - 400K
Dag Martin “dmmikkel” Mikkelsen - 260K
Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy - 280K
Joe “LatestLines2″ Ward - 180K
Thayer Rasmussen - 153K
Brian “Like7″ Lamanna - 150K
Hunter “The Hunt D” Frey - 105K
Clayton “clayton_27″ Newman - 140K
