WSOP 2008
The field at the Foxwoods World Poker Finals has quickly fallen below the 200 player mark. Shortstack Don “dbase22″ Yucius made it through the first level, but couldn’t hang on much longer. Jason “JCarver” Somerville (right), Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker, and Mike “inissint” Glasser have also been eliminated in recent action.
Tables continue to break at a rapid pace and players are being shuffled all around the room as play consolidates. At last check there were 175 players left in the tournament, spread over 20 tables.
Amit “Amak316″ Makhija hasn’t been able to get anything going today, and after hovering around 20k for a while he has been eliminated. After an opening raise from another player Joe “ender555″ Ebanks called and Amit shoved for 20,775. The first player flat called and Ebanks then came over the top all in. The other player again called and when the hands were turned up Joe’s pocket kings were up against the AK of Makhija and the other players AJ. The kings held up and while Makhija was sent to the rail Ebanks (left) was able to more than double up.
Sitting in the seat that was to the immediate right of Amit is Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul who has been up and down today. He came into the day with 130k, dropped to 70k early on and has recovered to get back to the around the stack he started the day with. Recently he came over the top of an opening raise of 3,200 with a 10k bet, but when another player moved all in for 55k and the initial raiser called Kevin tossed his hand. The two all ins showed pocket queens and AJ.
Steve “gboro780″ Gross (right) has been active at his table and is still among the larger stacks in the room. On a Q
6
6
flop Gross called a bet of 3,500. With the 5
turn both players checked and on the 7
river Gross was faced with an 8k bet which he again called. The other player showed the 8

and Steve mucked his hand. In another pot on a board showing A
K

6
Steve called a 3,100 bet on the turn and when it was checked to him on the Q
river Steve checked behind. The other player mucked his hand before Steve showed, but the dealer still made Gross show his K

before pushing him the pot.
Folding a set is a hard thing to do, especially on a board that doesn’t run 4 cards to a flush or straight. Mike Matusow folded pocket nines on a Q

turn to Christain “charder” Harder. The exact betting and stack sizes aren’t known but it looks like the pot was around 50k and it would have cost Matusow around 37k to call Harder’s all in, leaving him with around 30k behind. Instead, Mike folded his nines face up and Harder showed him the K
J
for a flopped straight that would have left Mike drawing to 10 outs on the river had he called.

As play moves into the 4th level of the day Adam “Roothlus” Levy has been able to win a few pots to chip up while other players have seen their tournaments come to an end. Both Chris “cdbr3799″ Dombrowski (pictured) and Jamie “TheCronic420″ Rosen have been sent to the rail in recent action.
Levy has recently been moved to a new table and is now on the left on Mike “inissint” Glasser. Before the move Levy was able to pick up some chips in a pot where a player opened for 800 and Levy raised to 2,250. After he was called the flop came J

and Adam bet 2,950 after it was checked to him. The other player called and withe the 2
on the turn Levy was able to take the pot with a bet of 5,800 once it was checked over to him.
After that Adam eliminated a player when his AK outran pocket tens. A player had opened for 1,600 and Adam raised to 5,500. A third player then moved all in for over 15k and once it folded to Levy he made the call. An ace on the turn gave Roothlus the pot and built his stack to around the 85k he currently has.

Jason “JCarver” Somerville bet 8,500 and his opponent moved all in for around 22k. Jason quickly called her bet and showed his K

for a flopped set while the other player showed the A

for aces that were drawing to two outs on the river. She didn’t hit and Somerville was able to pick up a nice pot early in the second level of play.
Somerville, along with Amit “Amak316″ Makhija are in the midst of their first trip to Foxwoods, while other like Justin “Looshle” Pechie, Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker, and Mike “inissint” Glasser are regular faces at Foxwoods WPT events.

Players just returned from their second break of the day and the tournament clock says that the total number of enrants to this years WSOP Main Event now stands at 6,843 which trumps last years registration of 6,358 by 485 players.
Michael “inissint” Glasser (pictured at right) saw his main event dreams end when he got the remainder of his stack in preflop with the A

and Glasser was sent to the rail. Mike “MGinVA” Gallo was also eliminated when his pocket kings were against pocket eights and his opponent hit an eight on the river to end Gallo’s day. Eric “Willing2Die” Sonstegard, Bryan “odiggitydog” Oshea, and Andrew “tiltyjoker” Lee were also eliminated during the last level.
Brett “Gank” Jungblut was spotted in a hand with Allen Cunningham. With the board reading A

and only 1.2k in the pot Gank bet 600 and Cunningham said “I know it’s a bluff” before evenually folding his hand. Brett then showed Cunningham his Q

and Cunningham laughed and said “I guess it wasn’t a bluff” as Brett scooped up the little pot.
Across the room Shane “Shaniac” Schleger, Greg “Funkii” Dyer, and Ben “bfineman” Fineman were all in a pot with three other players. All six players checked the flop of Q

and saw the 6
peel off on the turn. This is where things got a little more confusing. Action checked around to Shane who bet 600. Greg made the call and then Ben, who was in the small blind, check-raised to 2.4k. Everyone else got out of the way, Shane folded, and Greg called Ben’s raise. The 5
came on the river and Ben led out for 4.5k. Greg tanked for a bit before eventually folding and Ben scooped the pot.

The bubble burst in event #47, the $1.5k Stud h/l and the remaining players are all guaranteed at least $2,450. Brett “Gank” Jungblut and Craig “MrCasino” Gray have both survived the day so far. Brett currently has around 18k while Craig has been hovering around the 12k mark for a majority of the day. Phil Hellmuth has made his 66th WSOP cash in this event and Men “The Master” Nguyen has now cashed in 61 WSOP events.
Many notable players are still alive in the $5k NLHE six-handed event with the field down to 47. Steven “Cornell Fiji” Ware went on a killer run after the bubble burst. He started play after the bubble with 35k in chips and an hour later held over 350k. PocketFives asked Ware if he had proposed marriage to Frank (the dealer who dealt him all those monster hands) and Ware laughed and said he probably should have.
Players who have been knocked out recently include Glen “choron” Chorny (69th, $8,323), Mike “inissint” Glasser (66th, $9,080), Jason “tresfull21″ Mercier (51st, $10,972), and Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar (49th, $10,972). Below are the unoffical chip counts of the remaining players.
