‘Yellowsub’: Full Speed Ahead by Jessica on 07.08.08, 9:36 pm

As Level 6 came to a close Jeff “yellowsub” Williams (pictured at right) moved all-in for his remaining 6K on the last hand before break and picked up the blinds and antes.  Well, what a difference a level makes.  When we checked in with Jeff at the beginning of Level 8 he was sitting with a more than ample 65K–over 10 times the stack he had 2 hours earlier.  PocketFives Live inquired to Williams just how someone goes from 6K to 60K in the span of a level he told us, “you run really well.  You get lucky in a couple of spots too.”  Jeff has been all-in for his tournament life on four separate occassions during Level 7 and each time he found himself scooping chips to add to his stack.  We’ll continue to track Jeff’s progress and keep you posted as we play through to the dinner break.

Rami “arbianight” Boukai has doubled up to 45K in Level 8 just before his table broke in the Green section of the Amazon Room. With blinds at 400/800, a player opened to 2,400 in middle position and Boukai shoved for 22,100 on the button. it folded back to the original raiser, who thought for two minutes before calling with 88. Boukai revealed QQ and avoided disaster when the board came out K47JK.

The Toilet-0 Dethrones His Opponent by Jill on 07.04.08, 2:01 am

As Level 4 comes to a close and players anticipate the blinds increasing from 150/300 to 200/400 for the last level of play this evening, many players were making moves and chipping up before the break. We caught up with Jimmy “Gobboboy” Fricke as he called a river bet with T9 with two tens on the board to take down a good-sized pot and increase his stack from 22K to 30K.

Two tables over, Faraz “The Toilet-0″ Jaka (pictured at left) called an all-in bet on a flop of 443 against one opponent. He flipped over pocket kings to his opponent’s pocket nines; the dealer waved the magic “All-In” sign and the media descended on the table. The turn and river came 22 and Faraz increased his stack from 32.5K to 61K. His good-natured opponent shook everyone’s hand and exited the Amazon room.

In the Orange section, Jason Gray and one opponent saw a flop of QJ7 and both decided to check. When the 8 fell on the turn, Jason checked and the other player bet 2K. Jason made the call and the river brought the 2. Jason led out with a bet of 5K and his opponent called. Jason flipped over his 87 for two pair and the other player angrily mucked his hand and said “nice catch.” Jason just smiled and scooped up the pot. Jason is now sitting with a little more than 30K.

At the other end of the Amazon Blue section, PocketFives watched as Jamie “TheChronic420″ Rosen raised to 4.2K preflop with 23K behind. One opponent called after the rest of the table folded and the flop came JT6. His opponent pushed all in and Jamie snap-called him; he showed KK to the other player’s A-K. Jamie’s pocket kings held up effortlessly when turn was the 5 and the river the 4; he scooped the pot and was up to 67K, which he informed us was where he sat about ten minutes prior to the confrontation.

Other unofficial chip counts prior to the break:

Blair “blur5f6″ Hinkle - 86K
Jamie “TheChronic420″ Rosen - 67K
Faraz “The Toilet-0″ Jaka - 61K
Louis “MrBeeks” Werman (pictured at right)- 50K
Doug “Resilient” Smith - 40.3K
Brendan “moe86″ Mahoney - 35K
Jason Gray - 30K
Jimmy “Gobboboy” Fricke - 30K
Justin “looshle” Pechie - 17K
JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado - 17K

DABADEST Run of Cards by Jill on 07.01.08, 10:18 pm

Play in Event #53, the $1.5K Limit Shootout tournament is now down to mostly two- and three-handed tables, with several PocketFivers engaged in heads-up play. Contenders still in the running just paused for a 20-minute break to clear their heads before getting back in the game tonight.

We caught up with Tim “tmay420″ West (pictured at right), who was defying his 8:1 underdog status and hanging in there with 3.5K in chips. Meanwhile, Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg battles Andy Bloch and his beat-up hat, also an underdog with 3:1 odds. However, two other P5ers were making extraordinary moves and fighting up the chip counts to dominate their tables.

Matt “MattG1983″ Graham sat behind a fortress of chips with 22.5K, bullying his opponent, who was on life support. In one hand, the board ran out K5364 with Matt betting and his opponent calling on every street; Matt’s king was enough to take down the pot. The hand just before the break commenced, however, managed to nearly double his opponent. On a board of 487A, Matt bet the turn, his opponent reraised, and Matt called. The 2 on the river was irrelevant, as his opponent held A7 for two pair and took it down. Matt will return after the break to try and polish off his opponent.

As we reported earlier, Darren “DABADESTCHIC” Nelson (pictured at left) rallied his short stack up to 12K; in the last level, he went on a run of cards and worked it back and forth, managing to achieve 20K in chips at one point. His opponent kept making crying calls on river bets - in one hand, he bet 800 after the river and his opponent called on a 96T82 board. Darren showed down the QJ for the nut straight and raked in his chips. He also picked up several suit combinations of A-7 in the last level, showing it down three times to win pots.

Darren’s opponent jokingly accused the dealer of having romantic inclinations towards DABADESTCHIC as she switched places with an incoming dealer since his run of cards had been so good. “I swear you’re going out with the guy,” he said. “You gotta give her a kiss when she leaves, for goodness’ sakes!” Dan “wretchy” Martin and Faraz “The Toilet-0” Jaka were on hand to rail Darren, who apparently had a deep run in the Bellagio tournament last night.

Good luck to all players remaining in the event as play continues!

VanDuyn Not Friendly to Friends by AdamJ on 06.30.08, 9:16 pm

Down to 900 chips in the 1.5k NL WSOP Event #52, Josh “pbdrunks” VanDuyn (pictured left) didn’t have any problem doubling up off his roomate Markus “LURPED” Gonsalves.

Granted, looking down at AK will make any friend worth going to war against when you are short in a tournament but nevertheless, VanDuyn seemed to get great pleasure off the situation. VanDuyn was sure to point out his “spikey haired” roommate to P5’s that gave him the courtesy double up. VanDuyn currently has 5k with blinds at 200-400 in level six.

Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka continues to chip up after a good start in the first few levels. Jaka recently won a big pot when he re-raised a 600 bet from button to 2400 with pocket eights out of the blind. Jaka’s opponent called and both players checked a 8-5-2 flop. Jaka moved all-in for around 5k when he turned quads and got a call from his opponent who Jaka said claimed to have nines.  Jaka didn’t believe the story but was happy to collect the pot and currently sits with 18k.

Here’s a list of notable players left with the average stack at 10k

Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh - 21k
Scott “gunning4you” Seiver - 20.5K
Bryan “shortstackninja” Devonshire - 20K
Nick “fu_15″ Maimone - 19K
Andy “BKice” Seth - 13k
Ken “isuck123″ Goldin - 10K
Ben “bfineman” Fineman - 8.5K
Garrett “GBecks” Beckman - 8k
Keven “stammdogg3″ Stammen - 8K
Shaun “Cougars4444″ Hendrickson - 7K
Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar - 7k
Danny “THE_D_RY” Ryan - 6k
Scott “ssitron” Sitron - 5.5K
Andrew “GreerNC” Everhard - 3.7K

46 players remain In the $10K Pot Limit Omaha event including Shawn “sbuck21″ Buchanan (270K), David “Raptor517″ Benefield (135K), and Steve Sung (40K).

Chad Brown is currently the chip leader in the $1.5K HORSE event with 104 players remaining. Brown is seated at a star-studded table with both Joe Hachem and Mike Matusow, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping him from picking up chips. Meanwhile, several other players including Doug “Resilient” Smith and Brett “gank” Jungblut.

No Double Dipping by Jessica on 06.30.08, 7:42 pm

Several players in the $1.5K HORSE event decided to try to kill a couple of hours before Day 2 of play began by signing up for the $1.5K No Limit Hold Em event.  Unfortunately, the double dipping didn’t appear to work out well for most of them.  Shannon Shorr made early exits in both events while Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire (pictured at right) lasted a mere 3 hands in Day 2 of the HORSE event before returning to the $1.5K No Limit event.  Doug “Resilient” Smith, on the other hand, was too late to register for the Hold Em event, but remains in the HORSE event with 9K.  Meanwhile, Alex Jacob continues to alternate back and forth between the two events.

Luckily for Bryan, he has already built up a big stack to return to in the $1.5K event.  He was recently moved to the right of Ben “bfineman” Fineman and, when we caught up to Devonshire, he had raised to 550 under the gun with the blinds at 100/200 ante 25.  The player in the small blind reraised to 1750 and Bryan thought momentarily before making the call.  The flop came J86 and the player in the small blind bet out 2.5K.  Devonshire immediately moved all-in for his remaining 9K, which more than covered the other player’s chip stack.

The other player eventually folded and the table called for Devonshire to reveal his hand.  He declined, but did let Pocket Fives have a peek at his 89 before he tossed it in the muck.  After Bryan gave us permission to post it on Pocket Fives, but made us promise not to tell anyone on the floor, Fineman called out, “anyone have the internet on their phone?”

Another player making moves in the $1.5K Hold Em event is Andy “BKice” Seth (pictured at left), who recently doubled up when he moved all-in for his remaining 3.8K on a board reading Q6223 and his opponent thought momentarily before making the call.  Seth showed AQ for the nut flush and the other player mucked, sending the 16K pot Andy’s way.

Faraz “The Toliet-0″ Jaka’s table has been extremely active, with numerous all-ins on almost every hand.  While his tablemate TJ Cloutier is staying out of the all-in fests, Jaka recently got tangled in an enormous pot when he picked up pocket aces.  With the blinds at 100/200 Young Phan shoved all-in under the gun for 550 and a player in early position reraised to 1,100.  Faraz then shoved all-in for 2,875 with his aces, and the button moved all-in for 6K right behind him.  The player who reraised to 1,100 made the call and they all turned over their hands:

Phan: A-10
Early Position Player: Q-Q
Jaka: A-A
Button Player: A-K

The board ran out T82T5 and Phan took the main pot with trip tens, while Jaka scooped the side pot for 6,700.

Pocket Fives recently learned that Danny “THE_D_RY” Ryan and yesterday’s $2K No Limit Hold Em runner up Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson (pictured at right) were also in today’s enormous field.  With registration maxed out, players were put in every corner of the Rio and Johnson and Ryan spent the first three levels of play outside of the seafood restaurant Buzio’s–nearly one-third of a mile away from the Amazon Room.  Ryan told us he was “happy to get out of the ghetto” and into the main room.  He is sitting in good shape with 8.5K while Johnson is holding steady at his 3K starting stack.

Here are some chip counts of some of the other 1,620 players still in the event:

Scott “gunning4you” Seiver - 14K
Ken “isuck123″ Goldin - 10.5K
Ben Fineman - 8.5K
Nick “fu_15″ Maimon - 6.5K
Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar - 5K
Shaun “Cougars4444″ Hendrickson - 3.5K
