WSOP 2008
Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh’s remarkable run through this WSOP came to an end in the first level of the 10k NL Main Event, WSOP Event #54.
Slaubaugh’s 8

. Slaubaugh’s opponent turned an ace-high flush.
P5’s unfortunately caught the action late on the turn so the context of the hand isn’t complete.
Nevertheless, it’s been an incredible series for Slaubaugh, whose had arguably the best results from WSOP NL tournaments this summer.
Slaubaugh’s made five cashes this WSOP, three of which were top 20 finishes. Slaubaugh’s best run was through the 1.5k NL WSOP Event #36 where he finished 2nd, cashing for 389k.
Most players barometer on whether they drew a good starting table, especially in fields this large, is to not recognize anyone at their table.
A handful of P5ers were unfortunately not in that enviable position.
Adam “akat11″ Katz was sitting right across from one of the most feared NL tournament players in the world in David Pham. At least Katz was sitting a few seats to Pham’s right, although from talking with Katz that hardly seemed like any consolation.
“I mean why wouldn’t I be seated right across from one of the most aggressive tournament players in the world,” he said.
Brock “t_soprano” Parker (pictured left) drew one of the tougher tables in the field with Roland De Wolfe and David Benyamine sitting directly to his right. Throw in Peter Neff as well and the table is down right cruel.
Joe Sebok’s tough WSOP got a little bleaker when he was planted to the immediate right of James “mig.com” Mackey.
So far, Sebok has fared well at the table with 24k to Mackey’s 14k.
Joshua “pbdrunks” VanDuyn continues to battle tough luck early in tournaments this WSOP. VanDuyn’s stack is down to 11k after he turned an underflush in a pot he raised preflop. Luckily VanDuyn was able to salvage a chunk of his chips after he took a pot-control line after the flop, check-calling the turn and river.
Here’s a list of players’ stacks:
JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado - 26k
Adam “akat11″ Katz - 25k
Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka - 23k
Eric “jakz101″ Crain - 21k
Owen “ocrowe” Crowe - 21k
Brock “t_soprano” Parker - 18k
Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach - 17k
Adam “All In At 420″ Stout - 17k
Nick “fu_15″ Maimone - 14k

Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh, as well as the players at his table and spectators in attendance, were floored by a hand that just took place during tonight’s $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event. With the final two tables in action and the blinds at 10K/20K, Slaubaugh raised to 52K from the cutoff and Farzad Rouhani reraised to 200K from the button, leaving 75K behind. Action folded back around to Slaubaugh, who quickly moved in for a total of 380K and Rouhani responded with “Oops,” and went into the tank. After more than a minute of thinking and waiting for a hand at the other table to finish, Rouhani called, sounding off with “This is it!” which echoed through the Brasilia Room, and flipped over Q

. Those watching were shocked, as was Slaubaugh, who showed his A

and was unable to improve on a board of 9

“That was a sick slowroll,” Scott “ssitron” Sitron said, baring the sentiments of everyone in the room. Slaubaugh was then eliminated on the very next hand by Sitron. Cody raised to 100K, leaving two 1K chips behind, and said “I’m going to tank it for five minutes if someone reraises me.” Sitron moved all in from the small blind and Cody didn’t hold to his promise, tossing has chips in and displaying his 9

had a huge advantage and he managed to fade a heart flush draw to win the pot and eliminate a discouraged Slaubaugh.
We are now down to the final 12 players and Sitron is the short stack with 400K. Play will conclude tonight when the final nine are decided.

The final three players of the $1.5k HORSE tournament have been trading chips back and forth but Phil Hellmuth, who has been short stacked for the past few hours is (somewhat) patiently waiting for good spots to rebuild his stack. We haven’t seen too many of the “typical” Hellmuth tantrums but there have been a few. In one hand of razz Hellmuth was dealt paint after paint while his opponent kept catching baby cards. On 5th street Hellmuth threw his sunglasses down onto the ground before mucking his hand. He doubled up once and continues to steal little pots but with the blinds getting high he is having a tough time getting his stack moving in the right direction against the aggressive chip leader.
Over in the $1.5k NLHE tournament only 16 players remain including Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh and Scott “ssitron” Sitron. Cody had lost a little ground in the past couple hours until he was in the big blind and the player on the button pushed all in. Cody looked down and saw the Q

and quickly made the call. We missed what his opponent was holding but the board ran out K

and Cody’s set of queens was good enough to boost his stack back up to 425k.
Sitron was recently crippled in a hand with Corwin Cole and Eric Jolly. With the blinds at 8K/16K, Elliot Smith raised to 40K from middle position and Sitron, sitting directly to Smith’s left, reraised to 110K. Cole then moved in for 350K on the button and it folded around to Jolly in the big blind, who called off his last 160K. Smith folded and Sitron instantly called, setting up a dramatic three-way all in:
Sitron: A

Cole: Q

Jolly: J

The 8

flop looked good for Sitron, and the K
on the turn left him needing to fade only four outs. His nightmare came to life on the river, however, when the Q
peeled off, sending a pot of 950K over to Cole and leaving Scott with only 150K. Jolly was eliminated in 18th place.

Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh eliminated Tim Barchie in 30th place to chip up to over 400K in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event. With the blinds at 5K/10K, Barchie moved in for nearly 85K from under the gun and action folded around to Slaubaugh (pictured right) in the small blind. Cody contemplated his next move for a moment before moving all in for 320K. The big blind folded and each player’s hands were revealed:
Barchie: A

Slaughbaugh: A

The board revealed J

, giving Slaubaugh bottom pair to go along with a pair of jacks on the board but it proved more than enough to win the pot. He is seated with tournament chip leader Scott “ssitron” Sitron, who has more than 650K. Sitron is at Seat 9 while Slaubaugh is at Seat 6. Cody is attempting to reach his second final table within two weeks. He took second in another $1,500 No Limit Hold ‘em event for $389,128 on June 21.
Round 2 of the $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout got underway at 10:00 PT and players will play four levels before ending the night. The following P5ers are still among the field of 90:
Ben “bfineman” Fineman
Blair Rodman
Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith
Matt “mattg1983″ Graham
Mike “SirWatts” Watson
Sasha “bikocruz” Rosewood

In the $1.5k NLHE event #52, Scott “ssitron” Sitron is currently one of the chip leaders with nearly 600k in chips. In a recent hand, Scott (pictured left) was in the big blind and when the player on the button pushed all in for 22k. Already having 8k in the pot he wanted to call but his T

wasn’t the best hand. He did eventually make the call only to find that he was way ahead of the button’s 5

. The flop came with a ten and Scott knocked the other player out.
Alvin “alsmooth” Zeidenfeld was knocked out in 38th place when he open shoved 71.5K from the button at 4K/8K blinds and was called by the big blind with A

Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaughbaugh has been building his stack up over the last couple of hours and now sits with 340k while David Daneshgar currently has around 190k.
In the $1.5k LHE Shootout, Matt “mattg1983″ Graham, Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Sasha “bikocruz” Rosewood and Blair Rodman are headed to round two while Justin “zeejustin” Bonomo was eliminated when he ran his J
