WSOP 2008
Despite rebuilding his short stack to a more respectable level at 28k, Ryan “Daut44″ Daut (pictured right) lost it all back in big confrontation with Clonie Gowen in the 10k PLO WSOP Event #50.
Gowen raised to 4.5k and Daut reraised to 15k and Gowen called. Gowen checked to Daut on a 8

flop, and Daut went all-in for 13k and Gowen called. Daut tabled the A

Q
ahead of Gowen’s 6

double-draw that he had murked with higher diamonds. Daut lost to Gowen’s straight outs when the board ran Q
and the 6
.
David “Raptor517″ Benefield lost a near 100k pot, dipping his 175k stack, one of the biggest stacks left, to around 120k. Benefield flopped a set eights to his opponents pockets aces and a nut flush draw and lost when his opponent hit a runner-runner straight.
Here’s a list of other notable chip stacks left with the average stack at 60k.
Shawn “buck21″ Buchanan - 130k
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements - 80k
Tom “durrrr” Dwan - 40k
Eric “Rizen” Lynch - 14k
The $1.5K No Limit Hold Em WSOP Event #49 is losing players at a feverish pace. There are currently 29 players remaining–slightly more than 1% of the intial 2,700 person field. Recent eliminations include Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar in 35th place and Hevad “Rain” Khan. Khan was involved in a 4-way limped pot when the flop came Q
9
8
Khan and another player got it all-in. Khan held K
Q
while the other player had 6
7
. The 5
brought the other player their straight and Hevad was sent to the rail.
Some notable chip counts of the remaining players include JC Tran (380K), Andy Black (305K), and Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg (170K).

With a below average stack in the middle stages of the 5k NL WSOP Event #21, Liz Lieu (pictured right) caught the break she needed at just the right time.
On a flop of 6
4
7
, Gavin Smith led for 700 and Andy Black raised to 2k. Lieu 4-bet all-in for 8200. Smith folded (which he later said was aces) and Black moved all-in, having Lieu outchipped by a few thousand. Black tabled 4

and Lieu showed her double draw with the Q
8
. The turn was a Q
but the river 9
rescued Lieu’s stake in the tournament, increasing her stack to 18k.
There was an incredible amount of live pro’s at Scotty Nguyen’s table, who was playing alongside Kenny Tran, Noah “Exclusive” Boeken, Layne Flack, Huck Seed, and Eric Cajelais.
P5er Andy “BKiCe” Seth drew one of the tougher tables in the field with cash game savants Daniel Alaei, Nick Schulman, and Brian “tsarrast” Rast. Gavin Griffin and Matt “plattsburgh” Vengrin were also at the table, making for an interesting mix of players. Seth had one of the bigger stacks at the table with 31k at the 150-300-25 level.
Kevin “BeLOWaBOVe” Saul sitting alongside his friend Jason “JCarver” Summerville, lost over half his stack when his flopped set lost to a turned straight, losing a big bet on the turn and the river where Saul check-called both streets.
A few hands later with around 3k, Saul moved in under-the-gun at the 150-300-25 level with K
T
but ran into an opponents A
K
and Saul failed to improve.
Undeterred by busting, Saul was back at again in just enough time to join a handful of online players mixing it up in the 3k HORSE, WSOP Event #22 which started at 5pm.
Vying for his fifth WSOP cash this summer, Craig “MrCasino” Gray (pictured left) elected to skip the 5k NL event earlier so he could play the 3k HORSE. “There’s so many NL tournaments and this is just more of an enjoyable experience to me,” Gray said. “It’s like poker’s fun again.”
Fresh of their success in the 10k Mixed Event, Tony “tongni” Rivera and James “mig.com” Mackey are looking for another final table in a mixed games event after they were the last two standing in the 10k Mixed tournament. Ironically enough, both were dropouts from the University of Missouri but didn’t know each other til they met at the final table.
Here’s a list of some of the other notable online players scattered throughout the 408 player 3k HORSE field:

Brock “t_soprano”

The first day of the $5k Mixed Hold Em event is officially over, but not before some entertaining discussion went on at table #10.
Populated with popular players David Benyamine, Andy Black, Phil Laak, and Howard Lederer, this table was incredibly talkative leading up to the end of play.
During a conversation regarding how tight different players play Phil Laak stated “If you are dormant for a long time you build up credibility.” Obviously Phil didn’t feel like sitting dormant as he raised the very next hand and everyone folded. Andy Black asked “If I had pushed all in would you have folded?” and Phil laughed.
Not long after this transpired Black made it 1600 to go during a NL round and Phil Laak pushed all in for 10,325 more. Black sat for a long time debating whether to call or not as David Benyamine jokingly began to give him a hard time about whether he was going to call or not. One player at the table said “I’m gonna bet 500 chips he’s gonna fold” and the table laughed. Black did eventually fold and Phil pointed to one card and said “For $22 I’ll show you this one” but wasn’t taken up on his offer. Black did recieve a big teddy bear hug from Phil after the hand, but that probably wasn’t quite as pleasing as a large pile of chips.
An unknown player who is in the 9 seat on that table had taken part in the conversation about playing tight and when he raised on his button and everyone folded he asked the table “You want me to show it?” They all said yes and he proudly flipped over his 7-2 offsuit drawing laughter and cheers from his tablemates.
Black then announced to the table, “A bluff at the beginning and a bluff at the end. That’s perfect poker! Phil Ivey you’re useless!”
It’s nice to see such good-natured banter going on, but the tone will inevitably become more serious during day 2 as they approach the money bubble.
With 91 players remaining P5er Jon “PearlJammer” Turner (pictured left) is one of the chip leaders at the end of day one and Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke is also doing well. Notables Jeff Madsen, Phil Hellmuth, and Devilfish Ulliott have been eliminated.

With the blinds at 400/800, Chris “Genius28″ Lee and the player in the cutoff raised back and forth pre-flop until Chris put the other player all in. Chris showed A
Q
while the other player had K
K
. The flop came 3
6
K
giving the other player top set, and the K
on the turn sealed the deal giving him quads. Although it hurt Chris’s stack he still has about 35k as we move into the dinner break.
The randomness of table draws brought some interesting collections of players. One table could seemingly be labeled the “live pro’s table” populated with players including Allen Cunningham, Joe Sebok, Andy Black, Tony Cousineau, Patrick Antonius, and Kathy Leibert. Some tables had higher concentrations of known online players as well with one table including Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi, Brock “t_soprano” Parker, Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson, Ben “Milkybarkid” Grundy and Jeff Madsen.
Other tables, such as the table with Kevin “BeLOWaB0Ve” Saul, had a mixture of well-known live and online tournaments players including Shaun Deeb, Isaac “luvtheWNBA” Haxton, John Phan, Michael Mizrachi, Minh Ly, and Dan Shak.
Among the chip leaders heading into the dinner break were Shawn Keller and Marco Johnson (pictured), who have around 150k in chips with about 170 of the initial 352 remaining.
Other notable players had the following chips stacks: Alex “AJKHoosier1″ Kamberis 18k, Isaac Haxton 30k, Shaun Deeb 20k, Chris “Genius28″ Lee 35k.

Cory “UGOTPZD” Carroll (right) was able to grab a pot off of Tommy Le with a river bet on a board of K
Q
9
8
T
. Cory had checked his option from the big blind after Le completed from the small blind (blinds 15k / 30k). On the flop Le had check called a 45k bet from Carroll and both players checked the turn. With the river Le again checked and Cory bet 240k. The time on the clock ran out and players were on break, but Le stayed in thought for a long time before finally folding, showing a king as he did so. Cory showed the 7

as he stacked chips before heading out for break.
The chip lead has been held by Amir Vahedi so far today, but Gus Hansen was only 2 cards away from climbing back to the top of the chips. On a J

flop David Chiu bet 171k into a pot that Gus had raised preflop and both David Tran and Chiu had both called. Gus said he was going to raise half of Chiu’s remaining stack and after giving it a rough count he decided that 355k was close enough.
Chiu (left) then moved all in and Gus called. Hansen showed the A
J
and the look on Chiu’s face was a clear indicator he was in bad shape. His K
J
was left drawing to three outs but the turn was reminiscent of what Gus did to eliminate Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby earlier in the tournament. The K
peeled off and Gus was then the one drawing to 3 outs. His ace didn’t come in and he saw a pot of around 2 million chips heading the other direction.
Early eliminations included Jeff Shulman in 17th place and Andy Black in 16th. Black took a particularly bad beat at the hands of Robert Mizrachi. They were all in preflop with Black’s aces against Mizrachi’s J-9. The turn gave Mizrachi a gutshot draw to a straight but also gave Black the heart flush draw killing one of Robert’s outs. The 8
hit on the river making the straight for Robert and drawing a groan from many of the onlookers.
