WSOP 2008
With a paltry 120k stack to start Day 5 of the Main Event, Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg (pictured right) lasted a few hours before bowing out.
Frieberg doubled in the first orbit of play and got to 350k in the second level. Without many hands and stack well below the 900k average, Friedberg busted when he reraised a 30k open for all of his 170k. Friedberg’s AJ was up against AQ and was eliminated when he didn’t improve.
Pocketfives caught up with Friedberg after he exited in 148th place, cashing in for 41k.
Friedberg said he was happy with his first Main Event cash, and given the situations he was dealt, he didn’t leave the Amazon Room with any major misgivings about any of his plays.
Garrett “GBecks” Beckman was the recent beneficiary of a flop that hammered he and his opponents hand when it came A
J
8
. Beckman’s opponent bet 90k and Beckman shoved for about 450k total and his opponent called. Beckman revealed the A
Q
in a flip against his opponents A
J
. Beckman promptly clipped a 2
on the turn and won the hand, boosting his stack to 970k, his highpoint of the day. Beckman started with 515k and got down to 200k rather in the first hour of play.
Cort “thecorster” Kibler-Melby won a huge hand off of Jeremiah Smith before the last break when he raised the from the hijack and Smith called in position. Kibler-Melby played for stacks on a Q-5-5 flop, outflopping Smith’s A-Q with K
5
, resulting in a 860k pot which was the stack he took to the break about twenty minutes ago. The hand left Smith with about 50k in chips and he busted shortly after that.
Andy “BadgerPro” Schultz was eliminated in 142nd place despite getting his money in ahead. Schultz and another player saw a flop of A
T
6
. Schultz led out, his opponent raised and Schultz moved all in with A
K
. The other player called with 7
9
. The 9
came on the turn, but the 3
on the river knocked Andy of the tournament.

It took Jeremiah “Believer82″ Vinsant two hands and two minutes to go from 16k to 65k in the 1k rebuy WSOP Event #44. In the 500-1000-100 level, Mark Seif opened to 2500 and Vinsant moved all-in. To Vinsant’s dismay, a player moved all-in behind him for slightly less than Vinsant and Seif folded.
Vinsant showed K
T
and trailed his opponents J
J
until the flop came king high. The very next hand, Vinsant raised to 2600 and a player moved all-in from the blinds for around 20k. Vinsant called immediately with A
K
, dominating his opponents A
Q
. The board ran true for Vinsant who went from from a short stack to above average stack in two hands.
Vinsant failed to win his third straight hand in a row, however, loosing about 20k when he was checkraised on the turn on a A
9
3
Q
board. Vinsant told P5’s he folded A
J
.
Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman’s (pictured right) stack was on life support around 9k when the average 30k over an hour ago but currently is the chip leader at his table with 75k. Freeman didn’t say he had any big all-in preflop hands but mentioned that he was running good as an explanation for his rapid rise in chips.
Craig “MrCasino” Gray has also been on an upswing, as his stack has went from 18k to 46k in the last hour. Gray doubled up in a hand against Vanessa Rousso when he defended her raise from the big blind with J
T
. Gray check-raised Rousso when he flopped an open-end straight draw and backdoor flush draw on a nine high flop, and got re-raised all-in by Rousso, who flopped a set of nines. Gray made a straight and doubled to around 40k.
Stuart “TheDonator” Paterson (pictured left) recently doubled up when he defended a raise out of the big blind with 9-7 and flopped trips, doubling up off an opponent that had pocket aces. Paterson’s stack has gone from 47k to 110k in the past hour.
Shaun Deeb’s stack won’t be able to recover from a bluff gone bad after he went all-in over Theo Tran’s raise only to have a player raise behind him. Tran folded and Deeb proudly flipped over his 7
2
, which was remarkably not in that bad of shape against his opponents K
J
. Deeb flopped a flush draw but never improved and was sent to the rail.
Tran busted another prominent online player in Adam “Roothlus” Levy earlier when his set of three’s held up against Levy’s semi-bluffed flush draw with two overs to the board. Tran currently has 52k.
Here’s a list of other notable chip stacks with 144 remaining and the average stack at 47k.

Nursing a short stack after the money bubble burst in the 1.5k NL WSOP Event #39, Scott “gunning4you” Seiver (pictured right) adopted a strategy to either build up his 7k stack or go home with less than 40 minutes left in the day.
After a few double ups, once making a straight when he went all-in preflop with 5 high, Seiver now has a puncher’s chance with 21k with the average stack at 38k.
He was admittedly hoping to bust when he was really short so he could play the 2-7 triple draw tournament that starts in eleven hours.
Once Seiver built his stack up he said that he wasn’t throwing in the towel anymore as he started the 5k NL tournament on day 2 with a below average stack of 22k and went on to win the bracelet and 755k a few weeks back.
Wayne “Imustcall” Leonard won a nice pot off of Amit “amak316″ Makhija when he won an all-in confrontation with Q
Q
against Makhija’s A
K
minutes after the money bubble bursted, increasing Leonard’s stack to 40k and dropping Makhija’s down to 14k.
Theo Tran continued to add to his tally of cashes, making the money for the fifth time this WSOP. Tran won’t be able to make his third final table this series however, busting with two minutes left on a 4.5k stack.
Tran’s chances of making another deep run was thwarted when he lost a 40k pot before the money bubble when his AK lost to AQ in a hand that was all-in preflop.
Here’s a list of other notable players left.
Barry Greenstein - 84k
Garrett “GBecks” Beckman - 68k

Kenna James - 40k
Jason “JCarver” Somerville - 27k
Hasan Habib - 26k
Tony “Bond18″ Dunst - 18k

Jesper Hougaard was dominating the final table of event #36. He seemed to be impossible to beat as his cards seemed to match the flop every time a huge pot was at stake. While Hougaard got the chips in with the worst of it and outdrew to take out the 3rd and 4th place finishers in this event, the final hand had Hougaard ahead of Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh. Slaubaugh battled back from a 7.5 to 1 chip deficit at the beginning of heads up play to take over the chip lead at one point but Hougaard fought back and retook the lead before the final hand occured.
They got all the chips in preflop with Slaubaugh’s A
T
behind the Q
Q
that Hougaard held. Slaubaugh’s fans called for an ace, but the flop came with a much less pleasing Q
8
2
to give Hougaard a set and leave Slaubaugh drawing to runner runner outs. While we here at P5s called for a king or jack on the turn to keep Slaubaugh alive, the 5
on the turn sealed Slaubaugh’s fate and sent him to the rail.
P5s congratulates 8th place finisher Owen “ocrowe” Crowe, 3rd place finisher Aaron “gotcha55″ Kanter, and 2nd place finisher Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubaugh on their amazing performances today!
A few hours back, Adam “Roothlus” Levy (pictured left) was embarrased for the P5’s staff to see his stack that had been reduced to 7 blue 500 chips and mentioned that “it wasn’t even worth counting” during the 400-800 level of the WSOP Event #39, 1.5k NL.
A few hours later in the bubble stage, Levy was proud to show off his stack that was up to 37k, 10k over the chip average with 285 players left.
Levy scooped a nice pot in the 500-1000-100 level when he raised to 2.5k from late position and got called by the big blind.
Both players checked a J
6
7
flop. Levy’s opponent bet 4k on the 9
turn and Levy called. The 8
dropped on the river and Levy’s opponent bet 4k and Levy called making a straight with 7

.
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements got eliminated when he flatted an early position raise from the big blind and went all-in for 15.5k on a 8
5
6
flop with 4

. Clements’ opponent called with 9

and Clements failed to improve.
Here are some notable chip stacks left with 276 left. This tournament pays out 270 spots.

Garrett “GBecks” Beckman - 58k
Richard “Lee Nickel” Fohrenbach - 47k

Ben Grundy checked, Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul bet 6500 and Grundy made the call. The river brought the 7
and Grundy checked again. Saul bet 11, 700 and Grundy called, showing pocket deuces for a full house. Kevin Saul tabled pocket threes and dropped to around 25k in chips.
Shawn Keller raised to 1200 preflop from middle position, Tim Phan called, and Barry Greenstein reraised. Keller then repotted, effectively putting Barry all-in. Greenstein called with A
K
versus the other player’s pocket 10s. With a 10 on the flop, Greenstein was drawing slim. The turn and river were no help to him and he was eliminated midway through Level 3.
