We reported earlier that Isaac “Mr. Menlo” Baron, Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi, Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy (pictured left) and Mike “SirWatts” Watson were all seated at the same table in Event #35 $5K PLO. Well Watts has moved to an adjacent table, but the three remaining P5ers have proceeded to steamroll the rest of the table.
With 28 players remaining Josephy, Mizzi and Baron have over 20% of the chips in play. Baron and Mizzi are sitting with 410K and 325K respectively, and after a big hand Bax, is top five in chips as well.
With the blinds at 2.5K/5K, a very short stacked player raised to 15K from under the gun. He had 1K behind but couldn’t get it in quite yet because of the pot-limit. Josephy called from the cutoff and both blinds called as well. The flop fell 7
6
4
, and the small blind checked to the big blind who bet pot, 60K. The original raiser stuck his last 1K in and the action fell on Josephy. He dropped a chip on his cards and examined the hand for a moment. The player in the big blind only had about 40K more behind, so Bax decided to bet pot and get the small blind out of the way. The small blind indeed folded, and the player in the big blind quickly called. The hands were tabled:
Josephy: T
T
4
4
Big Blind: A
-7-6-3
Under the gun: T-9-3-X
Josephy had the lead with bottom set, but both players had outs to scoop the pot. The 3
on the turn was not one of them and the A
on the river gave the big blind a meaningless fourth pair. Bax’s set shipped him a pot worth well over 200K which skyrocketed his stack to 375K.
WSOP 2009 EVENT #36 $2K NLHE
Jordan Rich (pictured right) just got a little, you guessed it, richer in the $2K NLHE tournament. He called an extra 4,450 before the flop with his A
K
after an opponent moved all in with his A
J
. The board was 6
3
2
5
3
and Rich chipped up to about 60K.
Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh, who was crippled just before dinner break, was eliminated about 20 minutes after players returned to the tables. He was all in with his A
8
against another player’s A
K
when we walked up to the table.
The flop was a friendly Q
8
6
, but the turn was the K
. The river Q
was no help and Slaubaugh exited.
We missed out on counting the stacks of Dan “aresenal46″ Knottz and Kare “K-Rock2525” Terrell before break but they are both still healthy with 30K and 16K respectively.
WSOP EVENT #34: $1.5K NLHE
The final seven players in the $1.5K NLHE event have just returned from dinner break as well. Jonas Klausen was the chip leader at the break with 3.3 million chips. Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin was second with 2.5 million while Andrew “allofit29″ Youngblood was fourth with 1.1 million.
WSOP 2009 EVENT #37 $10K STUD 8 OR BETTER
Event #37 is off and running in the Brasilia Room. Like most $10K events the field is full of great pros, including P5ers Mike Sexton, Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier, Annie Duke, Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke and Jon “PearlJammer” Turner.
Sexton is off to a quick start with over 40K. He split a pot with wired aces and a sixty-seven low while we were sweating him. Mike three-bet on fourth street and proceeded to bet every street after. His opponent ended up make two pair, queens and tens, so Sexton was unable to scoop.
