The players in the $1.5K HORSE event are in the money, but their humorous antics and banter certainly aren’t dissipating as the field shrinks. Bryan Micon (pictured left) and Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire have spent Day Two seated together and appear to be enjoying the pleasure of each other’s company. They were explaining to us how the recently introduced pink 5K chips are bad luck and discussed how as they circulated around the table they brought run bad and lost pots to whomever ended up with them.
As they joked back and forth about the pink chips of doom, Micon spotted Allen “The Chainsaw” Kessler and got up to, “touch him for good luck.” Devonshire quickly advised him against it, suggesting he would probably not bring good luck at all and instead would cause Micon to get sucked out on repeatedly and Tweet about it relentlessly. Micon agreed and returned to his seat just in time to play this massive Razz hand:
With the betting limits at 2.5K/5K Micon completed with a 7
up and a player with less than four bets called behind. Thor Hansen then raised all-in for his last 7.2K, which was a big enough amount to allow Micon to raise again. The other player then pulled the tricky call reraise all-in Razz maneuver for a grand total of 10.6K and the hands were turned up:
Micon: 4-6-7
Hansen: A-2-8
Player #3: A-2-Q
The cards flew fast and furious so we couldn’t catch them all, but we can tell you that Thor made an A-2-4-5-8 low to stay alive and scoop the main pot, while Bryan’s 2-4-6-7-9 was enough to take the side pot and eliminate the other player. Micon didn’t lose too much on the hand as a result of the side pot and is currently sitting with around 22K. Also on the bright side? He managed to pass his pink chip Hansen’s way.
After the hand, Micon and Hansen were recapping the action and Micon observed, “Our hands are racing preflop obviously. His hand….was not.”
Here are some chip counts we spotted as the field dropped to 48 players:
Shannon Shorr - 180K
Lana Maier - 145K
Bryan Devonshire - 55K
Bryan Micon - 22K
WSOP 2009 Event #32: $2K NLHE
The players in the $2K NLHE are on a thirty minute break while the tournament staff colors up the green 25 chips, but some players were unable to stick around that long. We caught up with Darren Elias as he was facing a bet large enough to put him all-in on an 8

board. Elias was in the small blind and checked to his opponent on the river. The other player then pushed out 19 1K chips into a pot of 14K or so. Darren, who had 17K or so behind on the river thought some time before calling and mucking as soon as his opponent revealed 2

for deuces full of eights.
Two other players who are no longer in the event are Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul and Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar. The two were seated at the same table and Carter “ckingusc” King was moved there recently as well. It didn’t take long at all for King to get to work at his new locale, first crippling Kevin with A-K versus Saul’s A-J and then eliminating Rajkumar with pocket aces against Vivek’s K-10. While the other two players have hit the rail, King has built his stack up to 60K.
WSOP 2009 Event #29: $10K NLHE Heads Up
After slipping to a 2.5-1.5 million chip deficit, Leo “SuperfluousMan” Wolpert recently made up some room with a big hand in the semifinal round of the $10K. Wolpert fired bullets on every street of a Q

board and after Jamin Stokes check-called the flop and turn, a 420K river bet my Wolpert induced a margin and increased his stack to almost 1.7 million. Blinds are still at 12K/24K, leaving plenty of room for both to manuever as they play for a seat at in the championsip round. The winner will play the victor of the John Duthie-Nathan Doudney match, where Duthie currently holds a 3-1 chip advantage.
WSOP 2009 Event #28: $1.5K NLHE
The $1.5K NLHE event is four-handed at the final table and Jason “JP_OSU” Potter is sitting behind 1.1 million chips, which places him fourth overall. He’ll be looking to make a move soon as the blinds have climbed to 40K/80K with a 10K ante. Potter has the biggest crowd in the room behind him, including Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve Saul and Richard “LeeNickel” Fohrenbach, so we expect to hear an explosive reaction coming from the main stage of the Amazon Room should he double up soon.
