Stone Nothing For O’Dwyer…But He Wants To Call by Rachel on 06.15.09, 2:53 am

Steve “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer — sunglasses off for the first time all match, hands clenched atop his head — was facing an all in on the turn from Roberto Romanello in fourth round of the $10K heads-up championship.

“I have, like, stone nothing, but I still want to call,” he said. “I can always suck out.”

The board read 8425. There looked to be a little over 200K in the pot and about 300K left in Romanello’s stack. Whatever the number, it wasn’t much more or less than O’Dwyer had in front of him.

O’Dwyer (pictured at left) eventually decided to fold.

“I had ace-high,” he said a little later. “I was worried you had a better ace-high though. That was the problem.”

O’Dwyer still trails Romanello at last check. He has about 250K of the 960K in play.

Yevgeniy “atimos” Timoshenko has busted. In his final hand, Timoshenko raised to 13K before the flop with the blinds at 3k/6K. The flop was AT5. Timoshenko bet 16K and Bryan Pellegrino raised 28K more. Timoshenko moved the rest of his short stack all in and the hands were revealed:

Timoshenko: 23
Pellegrino: A9

Timoshenko was behind but had both a straight and a flush draw to the best hand. The turn T and the river {10c} were no help to him, though and he hit the rail.

Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier’s stay in the Round of 32 was brief. In the first time minutes of action, Mercier and Nathan Doudney exchanged a series of pre-flop raises that ended with all the chips in the middle. Mercier turned over pocket jacks but he was dominated by the pocket queens of Doudney. The board was no help to Mercier and Doudney had him just covered.

Mercier was eliminated, earning $38,424.

Leo “SuperfluousMan” Wolpert has a big chip lead over Mathieu Clavet in their match. With the blinds at 3K/6K, Wolpert raised to 15K pre-flop and Clavet called. The flop was 664. Clavet check-called Wolpert’s 9K bet. The turn was the 2. Clavet checked again and Wolpert bet 42K. There was no call this time though. Wolpert mucked his hand.

Johnny Chan defeated Justin “Boosted J” Smith. We caught up with one of the bigger hands on the match on the flop. With the board reading QJ6, Smith checked and Chan bet 21K. Smith made the call and the turn was the 9. Both players checked. The river was the 3. Smith led out for 56K and after some thought Chan called with. Smith immediately pushed his cards toward the muck and Chan showed AJ.

Alec “traheho” Torelli (pictured at right) has a lead over Jamin Stokes right now in what has been an back-and-forth match. Torelli took a big lead early in the match when he flopped a set. On the end the board was J9439. Stokes led out for 55K and Torelli raised 138K more. Stokes made the call but couldn’t beat Torelli’s 44.

WSOP 2009 Event #28 1.5K NLHE

While scanning the Amazon Room we noticed that Corey “comandr_cool” Burbick was missing. After further investigation we learned that he has in fact hit the rail.

We thought Clark “snake8484″ Hamagami busted too after nursing a short stack for a while. But we found Hamagami seated at a new table with the same short stack. With the blinds at 3K/6K/500, action folded to him in the cutoff and he raise to 35.5K all in. A player on the button flat called, and both blinds folded. The hands were then tabled:

Hamagami: J7
Button: AQ

A J8T flop pushed Clark ahead, but any ace, king, queen or nine would eliminate him. Hamagami successfully faded those outs when the 3 turned and the J gave him trips on the river. Clark more than doubled to 85K and has since pushed his stack above 100K.

A player who isn’t on the short stack is Jason “JPOSU” Potter(pictured at left). Potter is flexing some strength, sporting a stack over 400K.

WSOP 2009 Event #31 1.5K HORSE

Event #31 dropped over a hundred players within the last hour. Gavin Smith is among the casualties after suffering a nursing a very short stack. When we last saw him he had under 1K.

Anna “vietcutie” Wroblewski is having some fun at table 176. She is joined by Eric “jakz101″ Crain and friend of P5s Ali Nejad. In a recent hand of Omaha 8, Ali folded under the gun and action proceeded to fold to Anna in middle position. Wroblewski raised, and then a player on the button put in a third bet. The small blind four-bet, and the player in the big blind sweated his four cards. Before mucking, he showed Ali and us A-A-A-9, prompting Mr. Nejad to burst into laughter. Betting was capped on a J-8-4 flop. The action slowed after the turn and river. Wroblewski ended up winning holding T-T-8-8 for a set and no low qualified. Ali was flabbergasted at the hand. “It goes raise, re-raise, re-re-raise and this guy has three aces,” he yells. “What are you guys raising with?”

Here are some chip counts from various P5ers:

Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich — 13K
Blake “Balla-B13″ Cahail — 11K (pictured at right)
Eric “jakz101″ Crain — 9K
Barry Greenstein — 8K
Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade — 5.5K
Bryan Micon — 4K
Anna “vietcutie” Wroblewski — 2.5K
