Spegal Victim of Misread Hand; Campbell Doubles Up by Jessica on 06.02.08, 7:29 pm

We all know that feeling.  You peek down at your hole cards, memorize your holdings, and flop the nuts.  You manage to get it all-in only to discover you have misread your hand and you have nothing.  With the blinds at 100/200 a player limped in late position, the small blind completed, and Michael “BOBCATSPEGAL” Spegal checked in the big blind.  The flop cameQ J 8, the small blind checked, Spegal checked, and the third player bet out 500.  Michael then reraised all-in for around 1200 more.  The other player called instantly and, as he turned over his cards, he exclaimed, “Oh no, I thought I had 9 10″.  He actually held 98 to Spegal’s J 7.  However, the T on the turn completed the player’s gut shot straight and Michael failed to hit his flush on the river.  He was left with 250 chips and failed to double up when he moved all-in a few hands later.

James “POKERPRO33″ Campbell (pictured at left) had better luck when he got it all-in.  On a board of 3 K Q a player bet out 1175 and Campbell moved all-in for around 1K more.  The other player called, showing pocket sixes and James held K T for top pair.  The turn and river came 7 4 and Campbell doubled up.

In other Event #3 news, Leo “Superfluous Man” Wolpert is currently sitting at 18k.  Craig Gray, who was recently seated next to Wolpert, jokingly informed me it should be 18.6K, but he managed to win a small pot off Leo the previous hand.  Despite the loss, Wolpert is still towards the top of the leaderboard with 333 players remaining in Level 4.

Meanwhile, the money bubble has finally burst in Event #2.
