Sowers Busts Antonio, Fricke Sidelined by Court on 02.24.09, 12:14 am

Once play got down to 69 players the action slowed and it looked like things would stall out and the day would end before making it to the money.  Then a flurry of bustouts came all at once, with Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Antonio Esfandiari, and Yevginey “Atimos” Timoshenko all falling out in the upper mid 60’s, dropping the field to only 64 players and one off of the money with time still left on the clock.  Matt Savage has told all the dealers to hold up after completing the hand they are on and play will then continue hand for hand until one more player is eliminated, leaving the rest of the field in the money and done for the night.

After Antonio opened for 8k and another player called Sowers (left) raised to 35k.  Antonio then moved all in for 120,500 on top of the 35k and after the other player got out of the way Sowers ultimately made the call after tanking for a few minutes.  Antonio looked to be in position to double up with his AK against the AQ of Sowers, but on the turn the board read AJJQ” and Sower’s hit a queen to pair his kicker and take the lead in the hand.  The 3 river was the end of the line for day starting chip leader Esfandiari and sent the 320k pot to an already healthy Sowers.

Fricke (right) was all in with the KT on a board of AQ8 flop and was called by a player with pocket eights for a flopped set.  Fricke still had a lot of outs, but with the Q on the turn filling the other player up Jimmy was left needing a miracle.  The 5 wasn’t it and Fricke found himself on the sidelines in 69th place, a few spots short of making the money.

Over at his table Kofi “redsoxsox” Farkye has pretty much been pilfering his opponents.  Men Nguyen has tried to play some pots with Kofi, but Farkye’s aggression seems to get the best of Men every time, and so far Kofi has been regularly raking in pot after pot without showdown.  Peter “Nordberg” Feldman was able to push Paul Darden off of pocket eights preflop, with Darden folding his hand face up saying “We are either racing or you have me crushed.”

Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier was able to stand the heat from Cody “thugmoneymkr” Slaubuagh and after calling bets from Cody on the flop and turn the action went check check on the river.  The board read Q96K9 and Cody was first to show, turning over the 42 and playing the board.  Elky also turned over a no pair hand, but his AJ was good enough to take the pot.
