Somerville’s Strong in Event #15

Jason “JCarver” Somerville (pictured right) is among the chip leaders at the end of Day 1 of Event #15 $5K NLHE. Even with Gavin Griffin and Dennis Phillips to his direct left, Jason still continued to build his stack, and ended the day with 159K. Somerville will take a big stack into tomorrow, and surely hopes to reach the final table.
Towards the end of Level 10, Steve “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer was trapped by an opponent. O’Dwyer shoved with KJ, and was looked up by AA. The board didn’t help Steve, and he was eliminated. Also eliminated near the end of the day was Justin “lockdownpokha” Allen. We missed the hand that crippled Allen, but he stuck his last 2700 in the middle with the blinds at 500/1000/100, but, after a reraise and a call, Erik Seidel isolates to 16K and got heads up with Justin. . Seidel paired his ace on a A65 flop, and Allen hit the rail after the board ran 5, 7.
Amit “amak316″ Makhija (pictured left) is trending upwards, recently eliminating Michael DeMichele. DeMichele open shipped for under 6K and Makhija made the call on the button. The blinds folded and DeMichele tabled AK which was ahead of Makhija’s A10. The flop came Q-J-9, and Michael and Amit traded outs. A jack on the turn gave Makhija extra outs, a queen or nine would now chop the pot. Amit hit broadway on the river when a king spiked though, and DeMichele was eliminated. Makhija ended the night over 60K in chips.
On the last hand of the night, action folded to Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier on the button. With a dead small blind, and a short stack in the big blind, Staudenmaier raised to 60K. The big blind thought and stuck his last 16K in the middle. Luke was not thrilled to turn over T6
, and was even unhappier when his opponent showed KT. A board of AKJJ3 did not help Staudenmaier, and his very large stack took a small hit. Luke still finished the night with almost 100K in chips.

WSOP 2009 Event #12 $10,000 Mixed
Scott “dorinvandy” Dorin (pictured left) was eliminated in third place at the final table of the 10K Mixed Event, when he ran into the second nuts during a round of 2-7 Triple Draw. Dorin got the remainder of his stack in the middle before the first draw, and drew one card for the first and second draw. His opponent, Ville Wahlbeck, drew two and then one. They both stood pat for the third draw, and Wahlbeck turned over 2-3-4-6-7. Scott showed a 9 low, and Wahlbeck won the pot. Dorin will receive $199,940 for third.
