Somerville Finishes Second In Shootout

Jason “JCarver” Somerville (pictured at left) made it to heads-up play at the final table of the $1.5K NLHE Shootout event, but he couldn’t overcome a 3:1 chip deficit to win his first bracelet.
Just 20 or so minutes after the players got heads-up, Somerville went all in out of the small blind with Q

for just over a million chips. Jeff Carris made the call with K
5. The board was no help to Somerville and he was eliminated in second place, earning $194,004.
There was a big rail for Somerville at the final table. Some of the notables included Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar, Darryll “DFish” Fish and Carter “ckingusc” King.
They had a lot to cheer about earlier when Somerville got it all in during four-handed play against Andrew Margolis holding K
J against Margolis’ TT. Jason jumped ahead when the flop came AJ9. The K gave Somerville two pair, but it gave Andrew an inside straight draw as well. The 9 fell on the river, and Somerville scooped a 1.2 million chip pot.
WSOP 2009 Event #24 $1.5K NLHE
Ryan “gutshtallin” Welch just took a big pot off an opponent. With the blinds at 3K/6K/500, A player raised to 15K from under the gun. Ryan called on the button, and the two took a flop of Q53. The under the gun player led out for 20K, and Welch immediately raised to 60K. His opponent quickly folded, and Ryan tabled KQ. Welch flopped a monster, but will have to settle with a smaller pot to chip him up around 320K.
Looking around the Orange Section we found that both Jeff “mrrain” Banghart and Jeff “YoungSupremacy” Hakim have hit the rail.
WSOP EVENT #26: $1.5K LHE
More than two-thirds of the original 643 entrants have been eliminated from the $1.5K limit-hold’em event. The remaining 189 players have been sent on a 20-minute break.
We found PocketFivers in plenty of hands but reaching very few showdowns.
With the blinds at 300/500 and the limits at 500/1000, Rami “arbianight” Boukai (pictured at right) had three bets in before the flop when we joined the action. The flop was JT3. Boukai check and the other player in the hand bet. Boukai called and the turn was 5. Rami check-called another bet, and the river was the J. Both players checked and Boukai turned over T7 for the best hand. He has around 15K now.
We saw Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire raise on the button. The big blind made the call and the flop was KJ4. The big blind checked then mucked immediately after Devonshire put out a bet. He has 20.5K at the break.
Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein (28K) and Justin Bonomo (16K) are also still in the field.
WSOP EVENT #27: $5K PLO H/L
Players in the $5K Pot-Limit Omaha H/L have just returned from dinner break. Some of the P5ers remaining in the field according to their tweets and texts are Stewart “Stuman123″ Yancik (50K), Shannon Shorr (31.5K), Justin “Boosted J” Smith (10K) and Scott “BigRiskky” Clements (8K).
WSOP EVENT #25: $2.5K OMAHA AND STUD H/L
The money bubble has burst in event 25. Jon “PearlJammer” Turner has been chipping up and is now near the top of the leader board with more than 200K. There are 33 players remaining including Phil Ivey, who has been hovering around the chip lead all day. Play will likely continue tonight until 3 a.m., since it is doubtful that a final table will be reached before that time.
