The early chiplead in a turnout doesn’t always correspond to success later in the event. For Jason “JCarver” Somerville his chip leading stack earlier in the tournament only carried him to the money bubble where he ended up
busting in 29th place, only two spots away from making it into the money. Somerville wasn’t worried about just cashing though, he was trying to maximize his value and position himself as best as possible to win the tournament. His elimination, along with that of Andy Bloch, Brandon Cantu, and Chau Giang put the other 27 players into the money.
Somerville’s stack had fallen to where he was one of the short stacks in the room and his third consecutive all in preflop ended the tournament for him. The first two all ins picked up the blinds and antes for Jason but on the third another player found a hand and made the call. Jason had pocket tens, but couldn’t even get a race out of his pair as he was up against pocket aces. The sharp tops held up and Somerville found himself sidelined in 29th place leaving the field hand for hand until one more player was eliminated.
Chau Giang had the misfortune of being the actual bubble. He moved all in and Prahlad Friedman called. Matt “All In At 420″ Stout went into tank but finally folded pocket tens leaving Chau and Friedman heads up and all in. Friedman had pocket jacks while Chau had AK. The jacks held, Prahlad had Giang covered and with that everyone left in the tournament was in the money, guaranteed at least the bottom payout of $23,855.
