Shorr Cracks Robbins’ Aces, Charania Out Too by Court on 02.23.09, 7:37 pm

Pocket aces played a role in the fall of both Mohsin “ChicagoCards1′ Charania and Jamie “TheNew” Robbins (right).  Mohsin ran into aces while Robbins saw his aces get cracked marking the end of his tourney run here at the LAPC.  While those two have been eliminated, Shannon Shorr was able to benefit from Robbins bad fortune and Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers is continuing his strong run and at last check was around 450k in chips.

Charania had been battling with Hoyt Corkins throughout the day, with Hoyt having position on Charania, sitting to his immediate left.  Mohsin opened a pot for 4,100 and Hoyt called.  After everyone else folded the flop came out K62.  Charania led out for 8,500 and Hoyt made it 20k.  Mohsin immediately said all in and just as quickly Hoyt announced a call.  After the snap call Charania seemed to be expecting the AA that Hoyt turned over, and Charania and his AK was left in bad shape.  The board filled out with the 5 and the 6 and Mohsin had to count out 84,200 to send to Hoyt, leaving himself with 800 chips.

After posting the 200 chip ante, Mohsin’s last 600 chips went in the next hand, and again he had the AK.  This time he was up against pocket jacks and a jack high flop spelled the official end of the road for Charania.  He has had a lot of success since he started playing WPT events, and is quickly earning a name as a player on the verge of a breakout finish at one of these big tournaments.

Jamie Robbins took the same approach with his pocket aces in a hand against Shannon Shorr (left) as Hoyt did against Charania, deciding to just flat call an opening raise from Shorr.  On a queen high flop the chips went in, and Jamie’s pocket aces were up against the KQ of Shorr.  A king on the river yanked the pot away from Robbins and eliminated him from the tournament as his aces fell to the rivered two pair of Shorr.

Yevginey “Atimos” Timoshenko
moved all in over the top of a 20k bet from Young Phan, forcing Young out of the pot and adding a decent chunk to his stack.  After Young folded a player chided Yeginey to “show the bluff.”  A big smile came up on his face, but he pushed his cards in face down.  “I had deuce three of clubs,” Phan said.  “He didn’t have much better than that,” replied the player trying to get Timoshenko to show his bluff.
