Shaun Deeb: ‘Yes. I’m crazy.’ by Rachel on 06.18.09, 10:53 pm

In the final hand before the players in the $2K NLHE event were sent on a 90 minute dinner break Shaun Deeb (pictured at left) opened to 725 and was re-raised to 3K by the player in seat seven. According to Deeb, this was the fourth time the man had three bet him since he sat down at the table not all the long ago, so he moved all in with his 88. The guy made the call and showed AA. To make things worse for Deeb, someone at the table said they had folded an eight already.

The flop was QQ4, but Deeb found his one out on the turn. The 8 was flipped over by the dealer, causing the other player to flip out. (The river, by the way, was the 7.)

He said a few things we couldn’t quite hear prompting Deeb to shake his head slightly and say, “OK…” with a significant amount of sarcasm.

“Think that was a good play?” the man asked.

“Yes,” Deeb said.

“Come over the top of me? Are you crazy?

“Yes. I’m crazy.”

There was no sarcasm this time. The double moved Deeb up to almost 50K at the break.

Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh took a big hit to his stack on the final hand before dinner. He and another player saw a flop of A93. Cody checked, his opponent bet 2.5K and Cody raised to 6.1K. The other player called and the 3 fell on the turn. Both players checked. The river brought the K and Slaubaugh checked again. His opponent bet 7.5K and Cody thought for several minutes before making the call. He mucked when his opponent showed AK for top two pair. Slaubaugh finished the level with 3.7K

Across the aisle, roommates Michael “benvo123″ Benvenuti and Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder had a few extra goals on top of winning the hand when they played a big pot earlier. Benvenuti had busting Burkholder on his mind while Burkholder wanted it to made clear that he was trying to slowroll Benvenuti.

Benvenuti raised to 775 before the flop with QJ and Burkholder called on the button. According to Benvenuti the flop was K-J-10 with two clubs. He bet 850 and Burkholder called. The turn was the A. Benvenuti checked and Burkholder made a bet of 1.5K. Benvenuti raised to 5.5 and Burkholder called. The river was the T. Benvenuti bet enough to put Burkholder all in and Steve called. Burkholder turned over his A-Q after trying his slowroll and both players were disappointed to find they would chop the pot.

David “DavidP18″ Peters and Jeff “jeffboski” Sluzinski were both eliminated during the last level. Peters open-shoved his short stack all in on the button with K2. The small blind found AK and called. The board ran out KT3A9, and Peters hit the rail.

Sluzinski, who had been nursing a short stack for hours, moved all in out of the small blind and got called by both the pot’s original raiser and the button. The hands:

Sluzinski: JJ
Original raiser: AQ
Button: A7

The board came T63K…A and Sluzinski was eliminated.

Christian “charder30″ Harder, who is sitting at the same table as Shannon Shorr and Tony “Bond18″ Dunst in the Brasillia room, has been on a major upswing of late.

Already with about 60K in front of him, Harder re-raised out of the small blind to 4K pre-flop and got two callers. The flop was 862. Harder and another player check and the button bet 7K. Harder raised enough to put the man all in and the other person folded. The guy called and Harder’s KK was way ahead of the other player’s JJ. After the hand he estimated that he had around 82K and he went to dinner with 85K, according to his latest tweet.

He told his tablemates that he had been short earlier: “Then I sucked out, sucked out, coolered, coolered…”
