In deep stack poker it takes a big hand up against another big hand for a large pot to develop. Most players consider a set to be a big hand and many of the big pots so far today have involved a player holding a set. Darryll “DFish” Fish was able to eliminate Chino Rheem when his set improved to a full house and Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp flopped a set of jacks to eliminate fan favorite Daniel Negreanu and take down a pot that put him near the top of the chip counts.
Jon “PearlJammer” Turner (left) has amassed around 180k chips going into the fourth level of play for the day. Kopp was up to 170k after he flopped a set of jacks on a J-9-8 board against a player with pocket kings and Daniel Negreanu who was holding pocket tens for an open ended straight draw. The set held up, sidelining Negreanu early in the day and boosting Kopp to the top of the chip counts.
Fish chipped up to 150k after filling up against Chino Rheem, who won this event one year ago. On a 7-5-3 flop the chips went in with Fish having a set of treys and Rheem sitting on a flopped straight with his 6-4. A seven on the turn took the suspense out of it giving Fish a full house and leaving Chino drawing dead and eliminated from the tournnament.
Corey “UGOTPZD” Carroll is also accumulating chips, up over 120k at last check. Some 280 players have registered so far and their seems to be a steady stream of players willing to hop in the action late. Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers was one of the players to pull up a seat during the last level and join in the action.
