They are down to the final 27 players in the $5K NLHE 6-Max Event and some of the most recent casualities were P5ers. Andy “BKiCe” Seth was able to double up his five big blind stack through Shaun Deeb earlier this level, but history did not repeat itself when Andy moved all-in and Deeb reraised to isolate. It folded around and Deeb showed A-9 to Seth’s J-10. The A-9 held and Andy was eliminated in what we think was 29th place.
Ozzy “Ozzy87″ Sheikh (pictured left) was the next to fall and his demise also came at the hands of a P5er as well as a little misfortune. With the blinds at 5K/10K ante 1K it folded around to Sheikh in the small blind and he put in a raise. Blair “blur5f6″ Hinkle was in the big blind and 3-bet Ozzy. Sheikh moved all-in over the top of the raise, but Blair felt priced in to call with Q-3. He was slightly trailing the A-J of Shiekh, but the K-8-3 flop paired Blair’s trey and when the turn and river ran out 2-6, he busted out his fellow online pro and boosted his stack up to around 750K. Joining Seth and Sheikh on the rail is Darrell “Gigabet” Dicken, who was eliminated in 32nd place.
Other than eliminating Seth, Shaun Deeb has had a rough level. After reaching over a million chips he now has closer to 500K after a few costly hands, including one in which he doubled up an opponent on a 10-6-5 board holding Q-10 to his opponent’s 5-6. Shaun is in remarkably high spirits still and filled the table in on how funny it was going to be when he busted out in 27th place. If Deeb is able to outlast just one more player he can avoid the self-fulfilling prophecy and, considering he still has an average size chip stack, we’re guessing 26th or better isn’t an outlandish expectation for him.
Here are some other chip counts we spotted shortly before players went on a 20-minute break:
Blair “blur5f6″ Hinkle - 750K
Alex “EC10″ Venovski - 530K
Jonas “plummer92″ Wexler - 525K
Peter “Nordberg” Feldman - 500K
Shaun Deeb - 490K
Frank “Frank1The1Tank” Calo - 460K
Brent “Astrolux85″ Roberts - 300K
Josh “brikdog24″ Brikis - 290K
Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka - 250K
Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet - 205K
Ryan “dank stax” Milisits - 180K
WSOP 2009 Event #54: $1.5K NLHE
After a long and hard fought heads-up battle Jason “jdpc27″ Wheeler narrowly missed out on his first career bracelet and will instead have to settle for a runner-up finish to Tony Veckey. Veckey began heads-up play with the slight chip disadvantage, but the two players were relatively even-stacked on the final hand of the tournament. The two players got it all-in on a Q-10-8 board with Wheeler holding A-Q for top pair and Veckey holding J-9 for a flopped straight. The straight held to give Veckey the victory, but Jason still played some amazing poker today and should be proud of his impressive finish in an event with such a large field of players. Congratulations, Jason.
