It might look like he’s dozing off in the picture, but Steve “schtoof” Baldwin is well aware of the current situation in the $1K Seniors Event. There are 274 players left and the top 270 spots are guaranteed a minimum cash of $1,921. Baldwin is working with a stack of 16.5K and hasn’t been afraid of getting involved even being so close to the money. His son, recent bracelet winner Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin, is playing in the $10K PLHE World Championship across the room but has been checking in on pops from time to time.
Another P5er, Bud “BudmansCom” Stowe, has 25K as the money bubble approaches. We’re attempting to make it down to a final table tonight but it’s more likely that tounament officials will halt play at 3:00 a.m. The winner of tomorrow’s final table will receive $437,358.
WSOP 2009 Event #42: $2.5K Mixed Game
In our last post we reported that Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke would be running back and forth between the final two tables of the $2.5K Mixed Game event and the $10K PLHE event. We could be wrong, but we’re guessing that Jimmy is going to be spending more time than he initially expected over at Day 3 of the Mixed Games tournament. After starting the day with a mere 12 big blinds Jimmy has doubled up several times over and now sits at third in the chip counts with 400K. We caught the first of what was to be several double ups during the triple draw round in which Fricke and Rami “arbianight” Boukai got it all-in preflop for the remainder of Jimmy’s stack.
Jimmy stood pat on all streets while Rami drew two, drew two more, and drew one to show a 9-7-5-3-2, which was just bested by Jimmy’s 8-7-5-3-2. We’ve missed several of Fricke’s double ups since then, but considering Eric “jakz101″ Crain is sitting on a paltry 45K now, we think it is possible that some of those chips came from him.
WSOP 2009 Event #41: $5K NLHE Shootout
Peter “Belabacsi” Traply has taken the chip lead after eliminating the first player at the $5K NLHE Shootout. Traply called an all-in shove from Nasr El Nasr, who held pocket threes, and Traply’s pocket eights held up to eliminate El Nasr in fifth place. Traply is sitting with close to 3 million chips while Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger is second with just over 2.5 million.
