Three players have busted from the $2.5K six-handed no-limit hold’em event, but three of the four PocketFivers in the field to start the day still have chips.
Jay “SEABEAST” Kinkade was seated at the same table as Brock “t soprano” Parker to begin the day, which was playing four handed after an early elimination. We saw him raise and take a couple pots, but he stayed out of big action until he got the rest of his chips in holding A-Q to his opponent’s pocket kings. Unfortunately, the board was no help and Kinkade was eliminated in ninth place.
Parker has taken a few small hits to his chip stack early but still has well over a million chips. Our best count of his massive stack resulted in a total of about 1.4 million right now.
Parker raised to 56K under the gun before the flop with the blinds at 8K/16K with a 2K ante. It folded around to the big blind, who made the call. The flop was K
J
4
. Both players checked. The turn was the T
. The big blind led out for 60K and Parker called. The river was the T
, and both players checked again. The big blind showed his king and Parker mucked.
Parker made a raise to 40K pre-flop in another hand and was called by the player on the button. The flop was Q
{7c]2
. Parker checked and the button bet 52K. Parker made the call and both players saw the K
on the turn and checked. The river was the 4
. This time Parker led out for 60K and was quickly called. Brock turned over pocket tens, but he was beat by his opponent’s Q
J
.
Clayton “Clayton27″ Newman and Russell “rcrane082985″ Crane are seated at the other table along with chip leader Joe Serock. Crane has played a couple small pots so far and has around 620K. Newman has seen few flops thus far and is down to around 280K.
WSOP 2009 Event #22: $1.5K NLHE Shootout
As we persued the 1,000 person Shootout field we saw several tables with two and even three P5ers, plus some known pros thrown in for good measure. However, after combing the room we’ve decided that there are a couple of tables that merit the title: Table of P5 Doom.
Our first contender boasts Craig “craigthedeac” Boyd in Seat 4, Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal in Seat 5, Alex “Kadabra” Keating in Seat 9, and Kevin “kice32″ Iacafano in Seat 10.
Contender #2 features David “DavidP18″ Peters, Devin “tranquilchaos” Porter, Full Tilt Pro Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby, and Jason Gray.
Our last contender looked tough enough with the three P5ers already seated there. We were recollecting last year’s with Garrett “GBecks” Beckman (pictured left) who advanced to Round Two last year, got down to heads-up play, and played until nearly 7AM before narrowly missing out on the final table. His tablemates Jeff “yellowsub” Williams and Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah listened as we thought back on the obscenely long first day in which players had to get through two rounds of play and thanked the poker gods that this year the event has been extended to a 3-day tournament.
Shortly after that, a very recognizable face rolled in to claim the seat between Beckman and Williams: one newly minted WSOP bracelet winner Keven “Stamdogg” Stammen.
“He’s not real,” Jeff quickly told the dealer. “His ID is fake, it isn’t him.”
The other players’ attempts to keep Keven away from the table failed and he settled in making it one crowded P5s party.
Over in the Brasilia Room Eric “whItE mAmbA” Ladny also has a tough table draw, sharing a table with Chris “SLOPPY KLOD” Klodnicki and Andy “BKiCe” Seth, but he had an even tougher decision facing him in a three-way pot with the board reading A-K-J-8. Both of the other players in the hand had moved all-in ahead of Eric and he was dumbstruck as to what to do.
“Is this happening?,” Eric asked. “I mean, is this even real?” He checked his cards several more times before folding and promising life tilt if his top two pair were good. He was relieved to see he made a good fold, as both of his opponents held Q-10 for the Broadway straight and chopped the pot.
