Schwartz, Mizzi Double Up; Jacob out by Rachel on 05.29.09, 11:53 pm

Alex Jacob joined James “mig.com” Mackey on the rail of the 40K NLHE event shortly after dinner break. We didn’t catch the action, but Jacob had QJ on a jack-high flop while his opponent had pocket aces.

Noah “fouruhaters” Schwartz has been active lately. With the blinds at 6K/12K/1K, Schwartz raised the action to 36K. Action folded to Tony G who reraised to 80K one off the button. The blinds folded and action returned to Schwartz who tanked.

“I’ll show you the hand,” insisted Tony G. Schwartz coolly replied, “I know,” and made the call. The dealer flopped 9 8 8. Schwartz checked and Tony G instantly pushed all in, having Schwartz covered. Tony G insisted he’d show, but when Schwartz finally folded he said, “Pick one.” Upset, Schwartz chose the card closest to him, the J. “I promise it was a pair, the other was black, the jack of clubs I think,” said the Aussie as he stacked over 160K in chips from the pot. Schwartz was left with about 180K after the hand.

A few hands later Schwartz was all in pre-flop from first position with KK against Chris Moneymaker’s 77. The board came TT846, and Schwartz doubled up.

He got it all in again a short while later, but both players had AK and the pot was chopped.

Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi also doubled up during the last level. Mizzi led out on a flop of JT7 and was re-raised by the player in seat six. Mizzi then moved in for his final 194K, and the other player called after tanking for a while.

Mizzi showed JT for two pair while his opponent revealed 88. The turn was 6 and the river was T, so Mizzi doubled up to more than 800K.

Justin Bonomo has taken a couple of hits recently. First, he doubled up Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond when his AJ couldn’t overcome Galfond’s AK. Later he called an all-in from a player in seat two. The players were all in preflop, and Bonomo held J10 against his opponents 55. The board ran 8,6,3,5,7 and Bonomo did not improve.

Forty players are still have a chance at the bracelet, including Ted Forrest. If you happen to see him, you might want to remind him about that. Forrest never returned from dinner break, and his stack is currently being blinded away as the players fight for the $1.8 million first-place prize.
