WSOP 2008
With about 130 players remaining in the $1k NLHE w/Rebuys tourney, chip stacks are making some major swings as players look toward finishing the day strong.
Already the chip leader, Amit “amak316″ Makhija just added to his chip stack after a confrontation with Eric “Rizen” Lynch. Lynch and Makihja were in the small and big blinds respectively with the blinds at 500/1,000 when Lynch raised to 2,200. Amit reraised to 9,000 and Eric moved all in for another 30,000 or so. Makihja made the call and tabled A
K
while Lynch held Q
Q
. When the flop came A
A
Q
, Eric observed that, “they would’ve gotten it all in on the flop anyways.” He looked to be in good shape to double up after the 5
fell on the turn, but the K
on the river gave Amit the bigger boat. The two politely shook hands and complimented each others’ play as Eric left and Amit added even more chips to his enormous stack. He now sits with over 160,000 in chips.
Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy (pictured at left) suffered an equally brutal beat when he moved all-in for his last 5k with K
K
. As a player in the blinds counted out a reraise, Josephy seemed disgusted with his misfortune and, after everyone else folded, he asked the player, “Do you have aces?” The player rolled his eyes in disgust as he turned up his J
J
and Bax playfully ribbed him, noting that he shouldn’t be whining since it was such a small pot. The short-stacked Josephy seemed poised to double up, but running spades on the turn and river gave his opponent a spade flush to win the hand.
Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis nursed his short stack for a couple of rotations until he was 2nd to act in a hand and he min-raised. The cutoff called, the small blind folded, and the big blind re-raised a large amount. Steve immediatedly called all in and the player in the middle folded. Steve held the J
J
and was ahead to the other players A
Q
. The flop came K
4
3
then a harmless 4
came on the turn but unfortunately for Steve the A
on the river let his opponent catch up and sent him to the rail.
Play in Event #5 will continue for one more level before concluding for the day and then will resume at 2 pm tomorrow.
