The River Runs West by Rachel on 07.04.09, 6:47 pm

Tim “tmay420″ West just used the help of a timely river card to eliminate a player from today’s Main Event Day 1B. With blinds at 100/200 West (pictured left) raised to 450 from under-the-gun and two players called. On a K64 flop, West bet 750, one player called and the other folded. The 4 hit the turn and West checked. His opponent threw out a bet of 2K, leaving about 3.5K behind. West then check-raised enough to put the other player all in and he made the call:

West: JJ
Opponent: KT

The dealer slowly peeled over the J on the river, which sent West’s opponent out of his seat in disbelief. West won the pot with jacks full of fours and chipped up to 41.6K.

We walked up to Nick “fu_15″ Maimone’s table after a flop of KJ5 had been dealt. The player in seat six and the player in seat one both had 2K in front of them and had been raised to 6K by Maimone. Seat six folded before seat one moved all in. Maimone asked how much it was, but went ahead and made the call before the dealer (or we) could get a count after seeing the player’s stack. Seat one tabled AK while Maimone showed Q6. Maimone didn’t have to wait long — the 8 came one the turn and Maimone won the pot to increase his stack to just over 45K.

Maimone picked up a few more chips on the very next hand. He and two other players limped into the pot with the blinds at 100/200. The flop was AQQ and all three players checked to see the Q. Maimone bet 400 and the player to his left called while the other player got out of the way. The river was the 8 and both players checked again. Maimone showed K8 and took the pot.

Johannes “busto_soon” Van Til (pictured right) saw a flop of AAQ in a four-way pot. Van Til and another player checked before the player in seat two bet 2.1K. Van Til was the only player to make the call and the turn was the 5. Both players checked and the river was the 9. Van Til led out for a bet of 3,325. Seat two didn’t think for long before mucking his hand.

Here’s a list of some chip counts we grabbed midway through Level 2:
