The players are on a short break in Event #52 so that all the remaining re-buy chips can be exchanged in the Amazon Room. One player who will not be returning after the break is David “The Maven” Chicotsky
Chicotsky, pictured left, was crippled in a hand against Ivan Demidov and another opponent who was in the blinds over on Table 39. The action was raised by Demidov pre-flop and all three players saw a flop of 7
6
4
. The player in the blinds led out for 2.5K and “The Maven” tanked for quite some time before calling. Ivan folded and the dealer burned and turned the 6
. David’s opponent instantly shoved for a little less than 5K and Chicotsky called. David thought he was drawing holding 5
5
, but in reality he was drawing dead. His opponent held 7
6
for sixes full of sevens. The 8
dropped on the river just to pour salt in the wound and “The Maven” was left with under 1K in chips. He has since hit the rail, but we are sure he was gracious in defeat. David is known for shaking everyone’s hand at the table when he departs.
Keven “stamdogg” Stammen stole a small pot off of an opponent in the front of the Amazon Room. Shane “Shaniac” Schleger raised from early position, an opponent called from middle position and a player with just 50 in chips tossed them in the center on the button. Stammen made the call from the big blind and all four players saw the Q

flop. Stammen and Schleger checked to the player in middle position who led out for 600. Stammen called and Schleger folded. The two checked the J
on the turn, but Keven led out for 1.2K when the A
fell on the river. Stammen’s opponent folded and there was a showdown for the 250 chip “main pot.”

The table cheered at the quintuple up and the chip and a chair dream is alive. Stammen by the way pulled in the more than 1K side pot and chipped up towards 10K.
JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado tried to pick up a big pot at the 75/150 level. The player under the gun limped into the pot and the player in the hijack raised to 550 total. Alvarado called out of the small blind and the limper called as well. The trio checked around after the flop came K
6
3
, but JC bet out 650 when the 9
hit on the turn. The player under the gun folded and the other player called. The river was the 3
and Alvarado moved all-in for his last 3,050. The other player, who had plenty of chips to spare, decided to look Alvarado up and called.
“You got it,” JC said before he turned up his 4
7
for a busted straight draw. The other player showed 5
6
for a pair of sixes and while he scooped the pot Alvarado cashed in his two remaining rebuy chips to get his last 6K into play as Level 3 drew to a close.
On the last hand before the short break, Eric “whitE_mAmbA” Ladny (pictured right) raised to 400 on the button. Elliott Smith called from the small blind and the big blind folded. The flop came A
4
2
and Elliot checked. Eric bet 625 and Smith called. Elliott led out for 1.5K when the J
turned, and Ladny immediately shoved all-in. Smith tanked for almost the entire ten minute break. With a sigh and an, “OK,” Smith called. Eric tabled 4
4
for a set of fours and Elliott showed A
J
. The river was the 3
and Ladny busted Smith. Eric happily stacked his new chips and is well above the starting stack.
WSOP 2009 Event #51: $1.5K LHE Shootout
They have yet to lose a player at the 8-handed final table of the $1.5K LHE Shootout, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of early action at the start of the day. In the first level of play our two P5ers, Matt “mattster24″ Sterling and Joep “Pappe_Ruk” van den Bijgaary, clashed in a big pot early on. There were bets and raises on every street as the board ran out A-9-6-K-7 with Sterling holding pocket nines for a set and van den Bijgaary holding pocket sixes for a smaller set.
“Keep it up dealer,” the floor director commented after the hand was over. “You’re trying to bust people this early?” Joep isn’t anywhere near busto just yet though. He is currently 6th in chips with 320K while Matt is 4th with nearly 400K (just as a note, each player started the day with 360K in chips).
WSOP 2009 Event #49: $50K HORSE
There will be no final table this year for Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein. The Bear, pictured left, is a perennial favorite in this marque event, but Day 3 was very unkind to him.
Barry got the last of his stack in during a round of Stud Hi and so too did Justin “BoostedJ” Smith. Full Tilt pro Erick Lindgren came along for the ride in an attempt to eliminate both players, and the three hands were tabled. Here’s what they looked like through sixth street:
Greenstein: (A

-K
-Q
Smith: (A
)-(J
)-Q
-4
-K
-6
Lindgren: (7

Greenstein’s pair of aces still held after sixth street, but if Smith picked up a ten or a heart he would eliminate Barry. If Justin blanked and Lindgren caught a seven both players would the rail. Erick sweated his down card first but it was a blank. Justin turned over the T
though and The Bear was drawing dead.
Smith received a near triple-up and, of course, a signed copy of Ace on the River. The crowd gave Greenstein a nice round of applause as he exited the tournament area.
