Prahlad Friedman Wins! by Court on 08.27.09, 3:57 am

The heads up battle between Prahlad Friedman and Kevin Schaffel started with Prahlad having a lead of 6.6 million chips to Kevin Schaffel’s 1.85 million. After quickly doubling up to close the gap Schaffel and Friedman played another all in pot and Prahlad came out on top to take the crown.

The hand that double Schaffel was an interesting one, where Friedman called off a lot of chips with just a draw. The blinds were 50k / 100k with a 20k ante and Schaffel limped in. Friedman checked and on the AQ3 flop let out for 100k into the 240k pot. Schaffel then moved all in for 1.76 million and Friedman went into the tank, talking out loud trying to get a read on Schaffel. Finally Friedman decided to make the call with his J4 for a flush draw and was up against the Q3 of Schaffel for a flopped two pair. The board ran out with the 82 and with that Schaffel was able to double up and almost pull even with Friedman.

After the double up the two players were both around 4 million with Friedman holding a slight lead, but over the course of a few hands Prahlad was able to chip up to where he had 5 million chips to the 3.5 million of Schaffel. The blinds had bumped up to 60k / 120k and Schaffel brought it in for 300k. Prahlad made it 800k and Schaffel came over the top all in for the rest of his 3.5 million. Prahlad ended up making the call with his AQ and Schaffel was behind but live with the KJ.

The board came T3249 and the ace high was good enough to win the pot, the title and the $1 million top prize for Prahlad Friedman.

For Kevin Schaffel 2nd place brings $471,670 and possibly more importantly some final table experience all the way down to heads up play as he heads towards the WSOP Main Event final table in November.
