Potter Pushing For Bracelet by Rich on 06.15.09, 11:28 pm

Eight remain in Event #28 $1.5K NLHE and Jason “JPOSU” Potter, pictured right, sits comfortably with 1.6 million in chips. In a recent hand, Potter opened to 100K with the blinds at 20K/40K/5K. Short stacked, Mike Zulker raised all in and Potter made the call. The hands were tabled, and looked like this:

Potter: KJ
Zulker: KQ

The K77 flop paired both, but Zulker still led with his queen kicker. The 6 on the turn made things interesting, now a diamond or a jack would eliminate Zulker. The crowd erupted when the J spiked on the river, eliminating Zulker in ninth place. Potter scooped the pot and is now second in chips.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #32 $2K NLHE

Event #32 will payout 171 spots and, with only 560 of the original 1,534 entrants remaining, some speculate we will burst the money bubble tonight.

One player looking for a deep run is Theo Tran. He is seated at a table with fellow P5ers Aaron “NDGrinder59″ Steury and Jacob “bazeman” Bazeley. In a recent hand, a player raised to 900 from under the gun with the blinds at 150/300/25. Bazeley called from middle position and the action folded to Tran in the big blind. After examining the original raiser’s stack, which was about 5K more, Theo haphazardly grabbed a stack of chips and raised to 4.8K. The original raiser thought momentarily before folding and Bazeley’s hand quickly hit the muck. Tran is healthy, nearing 20K in chips.

Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka, pictured left, remains active to no surprise. A player raised to 700 from under the gun and the action folded to Jaka in the big blind. Jaka called, and the two saw a flop of J94. Jaka checked and his opponent bet 750. “OK,” Faraz announced. “You have a buyer.” Jaka splashed the pot and the dealer turned the K. Faraz led out for 2.2K and, without thought, his opponent raised to 5.1K. Jaka announced all-in and the under the gun player quickly called. The two tabled their cards:

Jaka: 68
UTG Player: QT

Jaka’s opponent turned a monster; the nut straight with a redraw to a queen high flush. Faraz was drawing dead, but just for a fun the 7 spiked on the river giving the two flushes. Jaka took a hit, but is still at 21K.

Other chip counts at dinner include:

WSOP 2009 Event #29 $10K NLHE HEADS-UP

Leo “Superfluous Man” Wolpert, pictured left, has advanced to the semifinals of the $10K Heads Up Event, which have just gotten underway on the main stage in the Amazon Room. Wolpert defeated Dustin “neverwin” Woolf in the quarterfinals and the final hand of the match had all the drama desired by poker fans. All of the chips went in preflop after Woolf pushed with 66 and Wolpert called with 77. The Q65 flop gave Woolf a set and sent Wolpert into a hole he could barely crawl out of, but the 8 hit the turn and the 4 spiked on the river, giving Wolpert a straight and moving him on to the next round.

Wolpert is playing Jamin Stokes, who came from behind to defeat Johnny Chan in the Round of 8. The winner will advance to the best-of-three championship and play for the gold bracelet and $625,682 prize.

Steven “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer wasn’t able to join Wolpert in the semis. O’Dwyer could never get into a groove against an over-aggressive John Duthie, who sent Steven home with $92,580 for his fifth-place finish. Congratulations to O’Dywer on a fantastic run in one of the most prestigious events at the 2009 World Series of Poker.
