Porter Ventures Out of Nit Cave and Heads Home by Jessica on 06.17.09, 8:58 pm

So we had incorrectly reported Devin “tranquilchaos” Porter (pictured right) had been eliminated on Day One.  We regret to inform you that he has in fact been eliminated this time.  It’s affirmative.  We poked him.  He was dead.  Porter had been nursing a short stack most of the afternoon or, as he and Full Tilt Poker Pro Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby called it, “hanging out in the nit cave.”  Devin even feigned hovering over his small chip stacks for warmth for added comedic effect.  Unfortunately, humor failed to help him in two key hands that led to his elimination.  First, Porter was part of an epic 3-way all-in preflop holding AK against a short stack’s AA and another player’s KJ.  The aces held for the main pot and Porter’s ace high was good enough to win the 22K side pot, eliminate the third player, and basically break even on the hand.

Just a few hands later Devin told us he moved all-in from the small blind for 22K at the 1K/2K ante 300 blind level holding A-3 and was called by the player in the big blind who held J-10.  The other player was able to spike a ten and eliminate Porter in around 120th place.

While Porter has been eliminated his friend Jared Hamby has been chipping up.  We watched as Hamby raised to 5.5K from the button and the player in the big blind called.  The flop came down Q53 and the other player checked to Hamby, who bet 7K.  His opponent check-raised 10.5K on top and Jared quickly moved all-in for 25.3K more.  His opponent tanked for a while and asked, “Do you have ace queen?  Or bigger?”  Eventually he folded and Hamby said, “You got it right on the first guess,” as he scooped the pot.  He is currently sitting with 73K.

While Jared has been picking up pots, Jeremiah “Believer82″ Vinsant appears to have resorted to sabotaging his tablemates.  He convinced Jeff “crzysavage” Gressard to order a shot of Patron and Jeff agreed, thinking several players at the table were joining in.  Gressard realized he was on his own when only a single cup of tequila arrived.  He accepted the cup and set it aside for the moment.  We’ll keep you updated on shot status as the night progresses.

Ryan “ryanbluf” Karp has been chipping up as of late.  He knocked out a player this level when he raised from the cutoff and the player in the small blind moved all-in for what looked to be about 20K.  Karp quickly called iwth QQ and the other player showed A-10.  The {ad]86 flop looked dire for Ryan, but the Q on the turn gave him a set of queens to take the lead.  The river was a meaningless 4 and Karp chippd up to 75K.  He appears to have lost a little of that back since then though and now sits with about 60K.

Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger took a bit of a hit when a player under the gun moved all-in for his last 16.9K at the 1K/2K level and Andrew called from under the gun plus one.  It folded around to the player on the button who thought for a while before moving all-in for 9.4K more.  Lichtenberger called and the three hands were revealed.  The initial shover held A5, Lichtenberger had AJ, and the player on the button had the best of it with AQ.  The board ran out QT6J2 and the A-Q held to eliminate the other player and knock Andrew down to 52K.

WSOP EVENT #32: $2K NLHE

Clark “snake8484″ Hamagami was eliminated from the $2K NLHE event. Hamagami called all in for his last 470K or so in the big blind with A-8 off suit but was up against the A-K of the small blind. The board came KJ8QA and Hamagami hit the rail in ninth place.

Eric “white_mAmbA” Ladny is still alive and well and bullying the table around when he can with his big chip stack. He is currently the chip leader with 2.6 million while Daniel “amichaikk” Makowsky has slipped near the bottom of the leader board with 500K.

WSOP EVENT #35: $5K PLO

There are 194 players remaining in the $5K PLO event from the original starting field of 363.

Stewart “Stuman123″ Yancik (pictured right)has just got a little healthy after an all in on the river. Yancik and another player checked the turn with the board reading AKQT. The river was the 6. The player in seat four led out for 4.5K and Yancik moved all in for 6,975 more. The other player stayed in the tank for a long time before laying down his hand.

Justin “Boosted J” Smith just doubled his stack to 18K after getting all his chips in behind. Smith showed AKQ4 after moving all in before the flop while his opponent showed AA52. The board of AJ98T brought Smith a straight and he scooped the pot.
