We’re down to just 873 of the original 1,981 Day 1a starters and short stacks are suddently finding themselves in desperation more with the blinds increasing to 400/800 with a 100 ante. There seems to be an all in every time we blink. Tim “tmay420″ West, Jeff “yellowsub” Williams and Steve “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer were among those sent home after the dinner break.
Kevin “kice32″ Iacofano was working with a big stack until he took another beat to end his day. A player raised to 2.2K from the cutoff and Iacofano reraised to 6.5K from the big blind. The other player called and they saw a flop of Kx9
2
. Iacofano led out for 8K, his opponent raised to 35K, Iacofano moved all in for 120K and the player called. Kevin tabled pocket aces, which was in good shape against A
7
. The turn put an abrupt end to Iacofano’s summer, however, as the 8
preeled off, leaving him drawing dead.
Both Chris “MacDad22″ MacFarland and David “Doc Sands” Sands have taken hits to their big stacks since returning from break.
MacFarland raised to 2.1K preflop and the player in seat six re-raised to 7K. MacFarland made the call and the flop was 4
2
2
. Seat six led out for 9K and MacFarland made it 20K. His opponent moved all in for an additional three or four thousand and MacFarland of course called. He showed 8
8
but was way behind seat six’s K
K
. The turn 6
and river A
were no help and MacFarland lost the pot. He still has well over 100K, though.
Sands gave us a quick recap of the 60K-pot he lost. He made a raise under the gun with pocket aces and got two callers. The flop was J-8-4 with one diamond. Sands, who held the ace of diamonds, led out and one of his opponent’s moved all in. Sands called and the other player showed K
J
. You can probably guess where this is going. The turn and river were both diamonds and Sands dropped to about 110K.
Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke just slipped a little bit after being check-raised on back to back streets. Action folded to Fricke who opened to 2.4K with the blinds at 400/800/100. The player in the big blind called and the two saw a flop of 9
8
2
. The big blind checked and Fricke bet 3.6K. Jimmy was check-raised to 8.2K and then re-raised to 19K. His opponent called and checked the 4
on the turn. Fricke bet 28K and his opponent moved all in. Jimmy was covered and opted to fold his hand, giving up a 100K pot.
Michael “Gags30″ Gagliano slipped a bit after losing a race. He held two black sixes against an opponent’s A
Q
and the board ran A
9
2
8
3
. Gagliano lost 15K in the hand, but his stack is still around six figures.
