To The Poker Room by Court on 10.21.09, 10:43 pm

Earlier in the day we noted that the Bellagio has been forced to use the poker room as overflow when the Fontana Lounge is full, but that didn’t seem likely for today. Well, with the late registrants continuing to file in throughout the day and the single table satellites already taking up some space in the Fontana Lounge the main poker room at the Bellagio was put back into service for the Festa al Lago WPT tournament.

Six tables of players are currently over in the poker room putting over 50 of the 241 players registered so far in the room along with the slew of cash games that run 24/7 there. The stay in the poker room and the Festa al Lago tournament was a short one for Alec “Traheho” Torelli (right). He was down to well under half the 60k starting stack and as his stack continued to dwindle it wasn’t long before he was all in and eliminated. After canceling his dinner plans with Isaac “mr. menlo” Baron and saying goodbye to fellow Brunson 10 member Zach “CrazyZachary” Clark he made the walk out of the poker room and away from the tournament.

Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers
was at the same table as Torelli and won a nice pot before seeing the chips he had just picked up go to John Phan the next hand. In the first hand Sowers called a 7k bet on the turn of a 5432 board and then also called the 10k bet he was faced with on the K river. His A5 was enough to win the pot putting some chips back into his stack. The next hand Sowers raised to 3,500 after Phan opened from early position for 1,200. Phan called and on the AJ6 flop John bet 3,500 and Sowers called. The turn was the K and an ever slow Phan took his time putting out a bet of 4,400 which Sowers called. The river put the 4th diamond out with the Q and Phan bet 7k which Sowers instantly tossed in a blue 10k chip to make the call.

Phan asked something along the lines of “do you have a flush” and Sowers responded by showing his KK for a set of kings but no flush. Phan tabled his 22 making a four flush with his deuce to win the pot. Also in the poker room, Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson was able to 4-bet preflop to pick up a pot. The pot was opened for 1,050 and Kyle WIlson raised to 3,500. From the big blind Marco made it 10k and picked up a few chips when both of the other players in the pot folded.

Steve “gboro780″ Gross (left) check called his way to the river and then led out but had to fold when he was faced with a raise on the river. On the Q32 flop Gross check called a 4,175 bet ad on the 4 turn both players checked. With the A river Gross led out for 6,175 and was raised to 17,150. He took a few moments to decide but ended up surrendering his hand and the pot.

Back over in the Fontana Lounge where most of the tournament tables are located David “Bakes” Baker was able to flop a set and double through pocket aces to build a stack of over 120k, while Jason “JCarver” Somerville is closing in on the 200k mark with his 170k chips.
