“It’s shaundeebs world and we’re just living in it.”
That is the latest tweet we’ve received from Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen, and we suspect Rasmussen’s jealousy to extend from this hand.
Shaun Deeb (pictured left) had just eliminated Davidi “legrouzin” Kitai in the $5K Six-handed NLHE event and was stacking his newly earned chips when a player in front of him raised to 7.6K. Deeb checked his cards and peered at the original raiser’s stack. Shaun called and the action folded behind him. The flop fell T
6
2
and Deeb’s opponent led out for 15K. Shaun sat still for a few minutes before pushing a huge stack of yellow 1K chips in the middle. The raise was to 43.1K and Deeb’s opponent announced all in. Shaun called and the hands were shown:
Deeb: Q
Q
Opponent A
T
Deeb needed to dodge an ace or a ten and did so when the turn and river came K
, 4
. Shaun’s opponent was eliminated while Deeb pulled in a massive 400K pot. Shaun is one of the chip leaders on dinner break; he will have 464K to work with when play resumes.
Many of the surrounding players walked over to admirer Deeb’s stack. It surely wasn’t the biggest in terms of worth, but he had over 600 black chips before the color up. If our math is correct, Shaun had almost a thousand physical chips in front of him. “I hope you move tables,” joked Jon “FatalError” Aguiar. Indeed Deeb was moved to the front of the room towards the end of the level, but he will have the last laugh as Aguiar was sent to the rail by an opponent.
Players in the $5K Six-handed NLHE have gone on break with 66 remaining in the field. We caught of lot more action during the past hour. Here’s a recap:
Lex “RasZi” Veldhuis and Frank “Frank1the1Tank Calo (pictured right) tangled in a hand that would generate one of the biggest pots of the tournament so far. Veldhuis, who had been maniacally active during the day, raised to 9K at 1.5K/3K blinds. Calo called on the button and the small blind followed. The flop brought A
T
6
. The small blind checked, Veldhuis led out for 22K and Calo raised to 56.7K. The small blind got out of the way and Veldhuis moved all in for 132.7K. Calo snap-called and each player tabled their hands:
Veldhuis: A
6
Calo: 8
9
The dealer rolled over the 7
on the turn, giving Calo a straight, and Velduis was unable to pair one of his hole cards as the 8
fell on the river. He was eliminated in 78th place for $10,163.
Jose “head2782″ Severino was taken out almost simultaneously at a nearby table. He limped in middle position and a player in late position raised to 9.5K. Action folded back to Severino, who re-raised to 31K. His opponent called and they saw a flop of K
9
9
. Severino checked, the other player bet 25K and Severino check-raised all in for 116K. His opponent asked for a count and made the call after he got an exact number. Severino showed J
J
, which was way behind K
T
.
The turn and river brought the 2
and 2
and Severino was eliminated.
Lee “acumen53″ Childs was also sent packing during Level 14. A player opened to 8K from the small blind and Childs re-raised all in to 50K. The small blind snap called tabling T
T
. Lee was racing with K
Q
but never caught up. His dad Bill Childs is still alive though with an above average stack.
Shannon Shorr (pictured left) will return for the dinner break but not nearly as healthy as he was an hour ago. He and another player saw a flop of Q
7
3
and his opponent bet 17K. Shorr raised to 47K and the other player called. The 8
fell on the turn and after his opponent checked Shorr moved all in, having the other player’s 191.6K stac covered. After about a minute of thought the player decided to call and showed Q
9
for top pair. Shorr rapped the table and said “I need one of your nines” as he revealed J
T
. He failed to get there as the river brought the 3
and Shorr’s once-herculean stack was dented down to 58K.
Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi doubled on the last hand before break. Mizzi open shoved with KJ and the small blind isolated with 55. The board read J-T-6-K-4 after the river and Sorel took the pot giving him 93K.
