The North American Poker Championship at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls is in day 4 of play with only 27 players remaining. Day 4 is the play down day here, meaning play will continue until the final 6 is set, no matter how long it takes. Yesterday ended up being a slightly shorter than expected day, finishing up in the middle of the 5th level of play for the day. Usually a short day one day means a long day the next, and playdown days from 27 to 6 have historically been some of the longer days in poker tournaments.
Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar has recent experience in surviving the playdown day at a World Poker Tour event and is hoping his first hand knowledge and experience gives him an extra edge on the competition. For Vivek, anything short of a repeat of his Borgata victory would leave him disappointed, but for the time being he has positioned himself as well as possible to contend for the title.
The 54 minutes that was left in the last level of the day was the first order of business for day 4 play. Miami John Cernuto was the only player eliminated in that chunk of play, falling early to Gavin Smith in a race situation. Cernuto was the shortest stack coming in and his 27th place finish brings $43,745 CAD.
Matt Matros and Gavin Smith join Rajkumar with over a million chips going into the next level of play.
