Peters’ Heater Burns Helppi by Rachel on 07.01.09, 4:54 am

After play had ended for the night in the $5K NLHE six-max event, we walked up to David “DavidP18″ Peters (pictured at left) and asked whether or not we had been correct to report that he had been under 5K at one point. He affirmed that we were correct an that just a few hours before play ended he had been down to 4K.

It’s not that we really thought we wrong, it was just a little hard to believe as we watched him bag up 237.4K.

A lot of those chips came courtesy of Juha Helppi. On a flop of Q74, Helppi checked and Peters bet 5.5K. Helppi then raised to 20K and Peters made the call. The turn was the 3. Helppi bet 30K and Peters moved all in. Helppi called pretty quickly but slammed his hand hard on the table when he saw Peters 77. Helppi showed 44. There was no miracle for Helppi on the river and he doubled Peters up to right at his end of night total.

Darryll “DFish” Fish and Lee “acumen53″ Childs got into a pre-flop raising war before the flop during the last level. According to a third party, Fish opened and Childs re-raised. We saw Fish then raise to about 17.8K before Childs moved all in with Fish covered. Fish thought for quite a while but eventually fold, leaving himself with about 45K behind. Childs showed his pocket kings before mucking.

“I was just glad I didn’t hear a snap call,” Childs said.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #55 $2.5K LIMIT 2-7 TRIPLE DRAW

Ryan “gotskillz” Fisler made another deep run in Event #55, but was eventually eliminated in 17th place. On his last hand Fisler drew a straight on the third and final draw and his opponent tabled a jack-ten low. Ryan receives $7,223 for his second cash at this year’s WSOP.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #54 $1.5K NLHE

Both Craig “MrCasino” Gray and Jamie “mmwaw” Kerstetter were eliminated in the past hour of the $1.5K NLHE event.

Kerstetter was eliminated when Sergey Konkin called her all in holding a wired pair of sevens. Jamie tabled A7 and couldn’t catch an ace to improve her hand.

Gray opened on the button to 25K with the blinds at 5K/10K/1K. The big blind called and the flop fell 554. After being checked to, Jason shoved all in. His opponent called the 102K bet and the hands were revealed:

Gray: JT
Big Blind: 88

The turn and river were both paint, but neither the K nor the Q helped Craig and he hit the rail.

Play will continue until 3 a.m., then the remaining players will bag and tag their chips only to return for Day 3 tomorrow.
