The deep stack play during the Main Event allows for a lot of creativity and we saw an example of that in the first hour today. Unfortunately it was Rob “veeRob” Perelman that was the victim of a big bluff. With blinds at 2K/4K ante 500 JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado opened to 8.5K and both the hijack and Perelman called. The flop brought A
7
5
and Alvarado checked. The hijack bet 15K, Perelman called on the button and Alvarado folded. On the 5
turn the hijack checked and Perelman bet 25K. His opponent began cutting chips out of his stack. He then put in a raise to 100K, putting Perelman to a decision for most of his stack. Perelman sat for a moment before deciding to fold. “Good laydown sir,” his opponent said as he flipped over 2
4
. Perelman was still left with around 115K after the hand.
Unforunately Rob won’t have a chance to get back at his newfound nemesis as their table broke just as the hand ended. He is now squeezed in between Casey “sobizzle21″ Sobczewski and Owen “ocrowe” Crowe at Table 21 in the Amazon Room.
Alvarado and Cody “CalBandGreat” Shedd and are among the early casualties.
After moving over to the Blue Section, Alvarado got it all in pre-flop with J
J
against an opponent’s A
Q
, but lost the race when the board ran Q
9
6
2
8
. Shedd didn’t get much of a sweat, his 7
7
was dominated by his opponent’s A
A
. In the end the board read Q
T
6
4
3
and Cody hit the rail.
Joe “jcada99″ Cada was on the other side of an elimination holding 9
9
. His short-stacked opponent held A
Q
and the flop was ace high but included the 9
. The turn and river brought blanks and Joe added almost 100K to his stack.
Scott “Chipless Wonder” Cook is also in good spirits after doubling up in the first level. Sitting with around 70K in his stack, Scott moved all in over a late position raise with A
T
and was called by the original raiser with pocket sevens. The board ran out T
4
2
Q
5
, giving Cook a pair of tens and doubling him up to 145K, a little more than half the current average stack.
Joe Sebok is on the mend health-wise and in terms of his chip stack after he and a short-stacked player got it all-in preflop with Joe holding A-K to the other player’s A
T
. Sebok got quite a sweat after the flop came down 5
5
4
. As the dealer paused, waiting for the ESPN cameras to give him the okay to burn and turn, Sebok looked at his opponent and said, “You couldn’t have asked for a better flop that didn’t have a ten in it.” Unfortunately for the other player, there was neither a ten nor a spade to come as the turn and river came J
3
to bust the player for his last 50K and build Sebok’s stack up to 350K.
Paging David “Bakes” Baker. We have a jerky alert and, more importantly a double up. With the blinds at 2K/4K ante 500 the player in the cutoff raised to 14K and Paul “ComeOnPhish” Lieu reraised all-in from the cutoff for 39K more. It folded back around to the player in the cutoff who called with A
K
. Liu showed J
J
which looked good after the 7
7
6
flop. It looked even better when the J
hit on the turn and it looked like $100 in free jerky when the J
fell on the river to give Paul quad jacks.
