Over an hour after returning from the dinner break it took almost an hour and a half and a full level of play before the first elimination. Gavin Smith was able to bust Dominic Staniscia in 9th place. With the blinds at 12k / 24k Gavin limped from late position and Marc “Myst” Karam called along with Staniscia and James Trenholm coming in from the blinds.
On the 6
5
4
flop Staniscia moved all in for over 500k and when the action got to Smith he called. Everyone else got out of the way and once the cards were up it turned out that Smith had flopped a straight with his 8
7
and Staniscia had moved in with two pair, holding the 6
5
. The board came queen queen and Smith’s straight was enough to take the pot and eliminate Dominic. The 9th place finish is worth $69,992 CAD.
Over the course of the first post dinner level relative unknown Glen Witmer has jumped to this chip lead, with Karam and Ryan “Gotskillz” Fisler both still near the top.
