Steve “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer and Roberto Romanello have finally finished battling in the $10K heads-up championship. O’Dwyer has officially joined the final eight participants in the event.
O’Dwyer got a couple of much-needed double-ups since our last update, each of which gave him back the chip lead in a match that last almost four hours.
All the money went in on the flop in the first hand on a board of J
4
3
. O’Dwyer had made two pair with his J
3
while Romanello flipped up Q
J
. The turn was the 5
and the river was the harmless 6
. O’Dwyer doubled to 542K of the 960K on the table.
Later the players got it all in pre-flop with O’Dwyer holding J
T
to Rommanello’s A
Q
. There was help for O’Dwyer on the K
J
3
flop and dodged Ramanello’s outs on the 2
turn and the 8
river. O’Dwyer was up to 554K after the hand.
In the final hand, O’Dwyer had Rommanello all in and covered with his A
J
to Rommanello’s J
T
. The board came A

8
and O’Dwyer advanced to tomorrow’s play at last.
Leo “SuperfluousMan” Wolpert also advanced after a long match. The players were all in on the turn with the board reading A
T
8
Q
. Wolpert showed J
9
for a queen-high straight while his opponent had turned two pair with his Q
8
. The double-up put Wolper over 450K.
Wolpert slowly built up a dominating chip lead and eventually busted his opponent when his A
K
held up against 8-7 in an all-in pot before the flop.
WSOP 2009 Event #28 $1.5K NLHE
With 46 players left in Event No. 28, each play becomes more and more important. The blinds are at 5K/10K/1K so each pot starts with roughly 23K in the middle, depending on the number of players at the table. This hasn’t stopped Jake “TheMuffin” Solis from having a good time though.
“If you’re not first, you’re last,” he told a player. The Ricky Bobby tidbit gave everyone a good laugh.
David “Doc Sands” Sands is doing his best to chip up at a nearby table. Before the last break, he raised the action to 18.5K from early position with the blinds then at 4K/8K/1K. Action folded to the big blind, who called. The flop was A
K
8
, and both players checked. Again the action went check, check when the 9
came on the turn. The river was the T
, and the big blind checked a third time. Sands did not check, rather he bet 28.5K. After tanking for a bit, the big blind called and David perked up. “Set,” he announced tabling T
T
. The player in the big blind mucked his hand angrily and David is up to 220K.
At the last break, chip counts looked like this:
Jason “JPOSU” Potter — 425K
Jake “TheMuffin” Solis — 240K
Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson — 133K
WSOP 2009 EVENT #30: $2.5K POT-LIMIT OMAHA
Day one of the $2.5K pot-limit hold’em event has ended with at least four PocketFivers among the 61 players out of an original field of 436 to make it through the day.
Rami “arbianight” Boukai finished with 60.2K while Darryll “DFish” Fish ended with 55.3K.
Isaac “Mr. Menlo” Baron will have about 49K to start play tomorrow. During the last round of play, Baron checked in the big blind and saw a flop of 6
5
2
. The player in the small blind position checked and Baron bet 1.7K. The other player made the call and the turn was A
. Both players checked to see the Q
on the river. The small blind led out for 5K and Baron called. The other player showed J
6
7
4
for a heart flush and Baron mucked.
Clayton “Clayton27″ Newman added some chips to his stack at the end of the night. Newman checked in the big blind and saw a flop with three other players. The flop was K
8
5
and all four players checked. The turn was the A
. The person in the small blind position led out for 2.3K. Newman called and the other two players in the hand folded. The river was the 9
. The small blind checked and Newman made a bet of 5.1K. His opponent called and Newman showed K
7
3
3
for the nut flush. Newman bagged up 31.4K a few hands later.
Play will resume at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the orange section of the Amazon Room. Forty five players will make the money and before the end of the night we will most likely know who will be at Tuesday’s final table.
WSOP 2009 Event #31 $1.5K HORSE
Event #31 was on a break recently, so we missed some action unfortunately. Although, thanks to twitter, we do know that Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke is busto and that Barry Greenstein is short with just 3.4K
