Into the Night

Another 90 minutes of play and day 1 at the Legends of Poker main event will be in the books. The day was shortened from 6 levels to 5 due to the light turnout. Of the 279 players that entered roughly 225 players remain and some number smaller than that will be bagging chips at the end of the day.
For Al “alsmooth” Zeidenfeld and Shannon Shorr the tournament is already over. Zeidenfeld lost an 80k pot to Isaac “Mr. Menlo” Baron and was eliminated on the next hand while Shorr fell to Steve “MrTimCaum” O’Dwyer. Amit “Amak316″ Makhija seemed to have one foot at the door as he dropped to 5k, but has rallied and is back up to 15k going into the last level of the night.
Call it a hot streak, confidence or whatever you want, but the phenomenon of a recent tourney winner having continued success at his next few stops is a fairly common occurrence and coming off of a recent WPT win at the Bellagio Cup Alexandre “Allingomes” Gomes (right) is back at it again. He recently won a large pot when he was raised on the river. Gomes had the best possible hand and led out on the river only to have the other player move all in with 2 small pair. After raking in the pot Gomes was up to almost 100k and atop the chip counts in another WPT event. Day 1 is a long way from making the money, much less another win, but for now at least things are running smoothly for Alexandre.
Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire is still going strong, coming into the last level of the day with 94k. Adam “Roothlus” Levy has 45k while Barry”barryg1″ Greenstein is back up to 34k after being as low as 15k. Phil “USCPhildo” Collins is just below the starting stack with 27k and Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul is up to 37k though his chip stack is the usual Saul rollercoaster constantly moving up and down.
